Ipsy March 2020 Subscription Box Review

Ipsy Bag

Cost: $12 monthly, $132 annual

Cycle: Every Month

What is it: Every month Ipsy sends out a cute makeup bag of samples and full size items. You can review your bag for points that you can trade in for reward items. The rewards change often and the range between 300 points and 1000 points. You can get around 95 points every month.

If you want to subscribe you can subscribe HERE and skip the waitlist. That is my referral link so I do get points to spend but I’m not an affiliate I don’t make any money or anything it’s just one beauty junkie to another.

You can now customize your bag and pick out one sample per month that will get to be in your bag which is a pretty nice change even though it came with a price increase.

This was a big “celebration” month in honor of the 100th Ipsy bag. So everyone got 6 items as well as a deal on Add-Ons. Add-ons usually start at $3 dollars but we got a 42 off discount on add-ons so for the first time ever I did get an add-on for an additional $1.07 which I’ll talk about later in this post. Other then that which pretty much saved the month for me it was a pretty meh bag.

Caolion Blackhead O2 Bubble Pore Pack

Full Size: 50 g

Full Size Cost: $14.49

Sample Size: 15 g

Value: $4.35

I don’t love these bubbling masks I feel like they are alot of gimmick, but they are super fun so I will use it.

Girlactik Precise Eyeliner Marker

Full Size: 1.2 ml

Full Size Cost: $20

Sample Size: 1.2 ml

Value: $20

I have gotten this before I can’t remember if it was from Ipsy or from Macy’s it is a fine liner nothing that amazing nothing that terrible. I have alot of open liners so I am not opening this just to swatch it we all know what a black liquid liner looks like.

Honey Jarret Clean Whip Cleanser

Full Size: 100 g

Full Size Cost: $18

Sample Size: 30 g

Value: $5.40

I have never heard of this brand but it seems pretty affordable. This is supposed to be really cleansing and get all the dirt and makeup out of your pores so I am wondering if it is going to also be really stripping.

Grace & Stella Lavender Lotion

Full Size: 473 ml

Full Size Cost: $15

Sample Size: 30 ml

Value: $0.95

I don’t love this it isn’t the sweet lavender scent that I prefer. It is also really greasy I am not the biggest fan.

Wander Beauty Wandress Eyeshadow in Blossom

Full Size: 6 shades x 1.6 g Each

Full Size Cost: $25

Sample Size: 1.4 g

Value: $3.65

This to me looks like and feels like a highlighter it is a pretty pink shifting gold shade very shimmery but not a ton of base color. The whole palette it comes in also sorta looks like a highlighter palette to me and that is how I plan to use this up. It is really pretty and smooth though I don’t hate it.

Complex Culture All Over Shadow Brush

Full Size: Yes

Full Size Cost: $18

I love these brushes they are so high quality so soft they blend beautifully. I just love them this is the third I think I have gotten from Ipsy. One was also part of the add-ons so I got the precision eyelid as an add-on for a dollar and am super happy to have these two brushes. They are so so nice. I love them.

Not my favorite month but the two brushes have me super super happy.

What’s In My Trash? February 2020

Another month down and I beat my month goal again. Thank god because I can already see that March is going to be a rough month I just started a a bunch of new large products. Uhoh. It was also looking back a really bad skin month. I didn’t like any of the products I used.

Skincare (12)

Naisture Tea Tree Mask Pack my skin is breaking out bad this month so I just wanted an easy tea tree mask since my skin loves tea tree oil. This was meh it didn’t fit well and I don’t think it did much.  I have three more. I may declutter them I may use them I don’t know yet.

Repurchase: No

Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patch these only worked on spots that had already been popped. So if I had already popped a pimple and put this on it would really suck out the gunk and help it get flatter and not come back up to a head but it wouldn’t do anything for pimples that hadn’t come to a head yet for that reason I am not sold on them I feel like the Peter Thomas Roth ones worked on all pimples and the Dr. Jart ones are really good. So I don’t know that I will get these again with their limited range of use.

Repurchase: Probably not

Biossance Squalane + Glycolic Renewal Facial this was ok it had some brightening effect but nothing so amazing to encourage me to buy it.

Repurchase: No

Biossance Squalane + Peptide Eye Gel this was a nice eye cream really hydrating and bit plumping but I don’t think it is worth the price.

Repurchase: No

Purlisse Blue Lotus + White Tea Treatment Sheet Mask this is a hydrating mask like most sheet masks are I don’t think I would ever pay $8 for these mask I think that is outrageous. I like that these are soothing and not overly drippy or serum heavy sometimes I just don’t want to deal with a messy mask.

Repurchase: No

Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm I like this but it can cling to my contacts even though it doesn’t hurt. This is a super gentle cleansing balm which is nice but it isn’t as effective at taking off really stubborn mascara and liner like the Clinique one so I would not repurchase. But I would definitely use it again. I rather have something that I know is going to take off everything.

Repurchase: No

P.S. Dark Circle Reducer Eye Patches so these do nothing as under eye patches but they are the kind that have adhesive so they stick super well and they made a really clean line for my eyeshadow. Since they are so so cheap I would probably buy more of these for that purpose.

Repurchase: Probably but not for their intended purpose.

Sunday Riley A+ High-Dose Retinoid Serum (2) I didn’t really see any difference I had two tubes I used this for about a month and really didn’t see any difference.

Repurchase: No

Dermovia Lace A Peel Black Bamboo Charcoal Peel Off Mask this was an intense face mask. I felt like it was ripping my entire face off and it hurt a lot. It did feel like it got a lot of stuff out of my skin so that was good but it really hurt a lot. It also looked so scary on I looked like I was wearing a sock over my face like a cartoon bank robber.

Repurchase: No

Biossance Squalane + Tea Tree Cleansing Gel this was just a what ever face wash nothing special. This line really hasn’t wowed me at all.

Repurchase: No

MD’s Picks Pore Clear Water Rubber Mask I thought this would be fun but I hated it. It was like making slime and the putting slime on my face I just was so skeeved out the whole time I had it on.

Repurchase: No

Random (2)

Fortune Cookie Soap Company Cooling Aloe Mist in FCS Vice this I used as sort of a everything mist. A scented body mist a cooling spray a face spray just for everything it smelled really nice but I wasn’t a fan of the formula. It had a kinda thick quality to it that felt kinda heavy on my skin. I wasn’t into it.

Repurchase: No

Native Deodorant in Coconut & Vanilla this was really hard and sticky so it made it super difficult to apply and because of that I feel like the application was never even enough for me to decide if it was working or not. This was officially the last of my mini natural deodorants and I don’t know if I will get more. I like having them and I do use them, but I don’t technically need them so I have to see how I feel without them for awhile. It kinda feels good to have finished one little sub category of items I own.

Repurchase: No

Home Scents (5)

Bath and Body Works Fine Fragrance Mist in Beach I buy most of these fine fragrance mists as room sprays it is far and few between the ones I actually use as body mists I rather use a perfume but I like these as room sprays. I can spray it and it smells nice but it doesn’t feel overwhelming I like them so a light rescenting of a room lol.  Beach is one of my favorites it smells like the beach I love it.

Repurchase: Probably, I just have way to many right now

Swan Creek Candle Co Drizzle Melt in Bourbon Maple Sugar this is still my favorite wax company that I have tried the they burn for a long time and they have strong scents. This scent just wasn’t for me. It was more of a smoky bourbon maple then a sweet bourbon maple and I don’t love smoky scents. I am so glad that I have found a few stores that sell these waxes now because I can easily get other scents from them.

Repurchase: Not this one

Bath and Body Works Cereal Marshmallow Bar Candle I love this candle with my whole heart I bought 3 and I wish I had bought more it legit smells like a rice crispy treat but a little brighter and sweeter. I love it is has a great scent throw as well too.

Repurchase: Yes, please come back next year please

Fortune Cookie Soap Company Wax Tart in The Bloom Bloom Room this was a pretty springy bright floral scent but it had no scent throw and a short burn time.

Repurchase: No

Bath and Body Works Wallflower in Hot Cocoa & Cream one of my favorite scents. I love how it makes everything smell like chocolate. It makes me happy.

Repurchase: Yes

Lip (3)

Skin Fix Lip Repair Balm in Vanilla Mint I hate the packaging of these balms so much that I will never buy them. They are so hard to squeeze out and messy due to how much coconut oil is in them and how sensitive coconut oil is to even the slightest of temperature changes. That said they do feel nice on the lips this was much mintier than the lemon mint one.

Repurchase: No

Carmex Classic Lip Balm I love Carmex but only in this stick form. It feels great on chapped lips it helps protect them so they heal I love it and will always have some around. It is also super cheap.

Repurchase: Yes

Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm in Natural Mint this was terrible it tasted more like tea tree oil then mint which was super unpleasant if you have ever gotten tea tree near your mouth. It was also really thick and heavy so it was more of a really hard to spread barrier product then a lip balm.

Repurchase: No

Makeup (1)

Nyx Vivid Brights Eyeliner in Vivid Violet I like these eyeliners but they tend to dry out so fast. Once upon a time they were the only way to get colored liquid liners but now there are more options and Colourpop liners are cheaper and better so I don’t think I would go back to these.

Repurchase: No

Lotion (6)

Bath and Body Works Body Cream in Fiji Pineapple Palm this smelled really good like real pineapples. I liked the formula on the old body creams much more than on the new ones.

Repurchase: Maybe

Fortune Cookie Soap Company Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Hydrate Me these are in shower lotion sticks. I know for some people this is the product they have been dreaming of and it does work I feel really moisturizer and smooth after I use them but putting lotion on in the shower is just not my preferred method of lotion application. So I get these in a subscription box at least one a year and will happily use them I won’t buy them but I recommend them highly they are really great products if this is what you like.

Repurchase: No, but I will use

Ahava Deadsea Water Mineral Hand Cream in Sea-Kissed I love this cream it smells like the beach and it is nice and light. It is really expensive though which is my only problem with it.

Repurchase: Maybe

Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Ultra-Hydrating Body Butter I surprisingly liked this I thought it would be thick and gross but it sunk in quickly and I felt really hydrated. It didn’t have any noticeable scent either. I don’t really need this much hydration and I like a scent in my lotion so I wouldn’t purchase but I would happily use it again.

Repurchase: Probably not

Bath and Body Works Hand Cream In Ghoul Friend (Scary Berry) these hand lotions are fine but nothing special. I use them in my car and grab them when I have coupons to get them free. This one had super cute packaging and the berry scent was really nice.

Repurchase: Yes

Victoria Secret Body Milk Coffee Shop Hydrating Spray Lotion I liked the vanilla latte scent of this a lot but I hated this lotion. It didn’t come out of the spray well so it was hard to get an even coverage to rub in. and it was always really cold feeling I don’t know if that was a me problem or not but I didn’t like that.

Repurchase: No

Bodycare (4)

Fortune Cookie Soap Company Bubbling Bath Salts in Atlantis I really liked these they smelled nice and made the water a pretty blue. But I would rather a bath bomb to bath salts. I only like the bath salts that are Epsom salts and helping my muscles.

Repurchase: No

Fortune Cookie Soap Company Body Scrub in In Your Glitter Dreams I didn’t like that this left glitter all over me of that the smell was really artificial and off putting which is rare for and FCS product. But the scrub itself was the kind I like where it is a loose paste that is super scrubby but also kinda moisturizing.

Repurchase: This one no but others

Spongelle in Sugar Plum these are super convientent for traveling with a sponge that has soap in it already this one left my skin feeling really dry though. So even though I liked this scent I would probably not repurchase since it left me feeling dry.

Repurchase: No

Fortune Cookie Soap Company Aqua Illusion Liquid Bubble Bath this smelled really nice everything in the Sailor Moon collection was all fruity and yum. This didn’t make nice bubbles though it was the weak thin kind of bubbles.

Repurchase: No

Perfume (1)

Juicy Couture Mini Spray Oui I had this small vial of perfume from when I got the full size. It was good for like 3 or 4 days and I love how it smells.

Repurchase: I already have the full size

Haircare (3)

Bumble and Bumble Bb. Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Balm-to-Oil Pre-Shampoo Masque this was weird. It was really solid and they you warm it up and spread it through your hair but it is still pretty thick and sticky. It was hard to rinse out. It also left my hair feeling so greasy I had to wash it the next day.

Repurchase: No

Ag Colour Savour Mask loved this. It made my hair so so soft and did help a decent amount to protect my color. I really really liked this.

Repurchase: Yes

AG Cleansing Cream I like this and I like being able to use a cleansing conditioner like I am used to when I travel. It leaves my hair soft but a bit puffy and staticy which I don’t love.

Repurchase: Maybe

Declutter (3)

Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil this was leaving my skin really congested so I am not going to use this anymore. I really wanted this to work even though I knew there was a strong chance my skin would react badly to this even after I had a successful patch test with this it just didn’t obviously because I am allergic to roses.

L’Oreal Infallible The Super Slim Liquid Eyeliner this is just terrible. It is so smugdey it never fully dries down and ends up just rubbing off and smearing all over my face.

Mac Prep + Prime Skin this is primer but it is full of glitter and it made me break out and it felt gross on. I don’t understand this product.

I had alot of misses this month like most this I used I wasn’t happy with which is pretty unfortunate but it happens and I am happy to have them out of my house at least.

Boxycharm February 2020 Subscription Box Review

Boxycharm

Cost: $25

Cycle: Every Month

What is it:

Boxycharm sends out 4 to 5 full size items every month which makes it really unique among the  boxes I subscribe to. It is a nice change to get all full size products especially for $25 which is usually less then the cost of one item in the box. Boxycharm also joined the customization train and you can choose between 2 items to have one in your box for the month. I really like that because Boxycharm was getting to the point where I was only liking one thing in my box and even though the value was there the fun wasn’t anymore.

If you would like to subscribe you can use my referral link HERE. I don’t get anything other then points but would really appreciate it but do as you feel comfortable you are also welcome to use the link in the header that leads to the regular homepage.

You can also review your products and get “charms” which are their versions of points that you can use as money off in their shop.

Winter came back with a vengeance and I am so cold that even the short while I need to be out from under the blanket to write this is physically painful.

Ciate London Everyday Vacay Coconut Setting Powder

Full Size: 15 g

Full Size Cost: $22

So this is the stiffest powder I have ever felt. Like I didn’t know a powder could feel so stiff and dry it is weird. It also says it is coconut scented but it isn’t. Pretty packaging though and this is a brand new just launched product so that makes it a bit cooler to see in here.

Alamar Cosmetics Complexion Brush Trio

Full Size: 3 brushes

Full Size Cost: $36

This is a very interesting set of brushes. First I don’t like that they are all labeled with what they are “supposed” to be used for because it seems misleading. The littlest brush is labeled a brightening brush which is just an odd thing to call a brush it is either a highlighting brush or an under eye setting brush but it is a bit dense for either of those uses. Then the brush that is labeled bronzer is more of a foundation brush. It has all the bumps on it that make it uneven so it would make bronzer super patchy. It is super weird.

Kate Somerville Kx Active Concentrates Bio-Mimicking Peptides Serum

Full Size: 30 ml

Full Size Cost: $98

This was the item I chose and I am definitely getting my moneys worth with these picks. This was pretty sticky on but I am hoping it will help make my skin appear smoother and refreshed like it claims. Kate Somerville products have a good reputation but I have never had the chance to try any of their more expensive more interesting products.

First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads

Full Size: 28 pads

Full Size Cost: $17

These I have tried before and they are pretty unimpressive they are like grown up Oxypads. I find them to be pretty drying so I will hold off using these till the summer. I have never used them longer then a week or two but I can’t say I saw any brightening other then just removing dirt and oil from my face.

Evioskin x Aurora Refreshing Cleansing Hemp Wipes

Full Size: 30 Wipes

Full Size Cost: $14

Travel Size: 15 Wipes

Cost: $10

These are currently totally sold out but we don’t get wipes in boxes often so even though these are the travel size I am pretty thrilled to get some new ones to try. Everything has hemp or cbd in it these days since it is the hot new trend but still a win.

Another month of a very skincare heavy box but I am not going to complain about that. Though I am hoping for some fun makeup next month. I love getting brushes because who wants to pay for them.

Total: $183

Total Value to Me: $161
