What’s In My Trash? January 2018

First month of the new year already over that is so crazy to me.  I have decide that I want to attempt 365 empties (and decluttered items) for the year. After how much I used up and decluttered this month I think I can do it.

This accidentally went up for a few hours before it was finished storry about that now its all finished.

And here is most of this months stuff holy crap. For the rest see the declutter section at the end.

Makeup

Covergirl Full Bloom Mascara I loved this. It gave me perfect fluffy lashes. I also really liked the smell it has that classic mascara smell that is just like nostalgic happiness.

Repurchase: Yes

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil in Perversion I can’t believe I finally finished this it too me a year of solid use to get through and I am so FUCKING excited to be done with it.  I don’t like the perversion shade it does not work for me at all. It goes all grey on me and smudges and it is just a mess on me I know most people love it but for me I prefer Zero as a black liner from them. I have for billion more samples of this So this may show up again in declutters or I may use them I don’t know. Obviously since there is another side to this pencil in LSD (Which I do really like) this isn’t going to leave my collection just move from the black eyeliner drawer to the color eyeliner drawer.

Repurchase: No

Lip Products

Bite Beauty Lip Scrub Not the best not the worst it doesn’t taste the worst but also doesn’t scrub the best.

Repurchase: No

Bite Beauty Agave Lip Balm this was different then the one I used last month this is a thick waxy balm I really didn’t like it at first but after about a minute it starts to melt into your lips and becomes a much more comfortable balm that really feels glidey when you rub your lips together which is nice. But still not impressed enough.

Repurchase: No

Chapstick Hydration Lock this has a day side and a night side and I finished up both sides this was great I really liked this. The night side I preferred slightly it was a little textured but also more moisturizing. The day side has spf which is critical in a lip balm for me if I am going to be outside in the sun a lot. I randomly picked this up at five below when I was in emergency need of lip balm ad I would definitely pick this up again if I ever see it.

Repurchase: Yes

Skyn Iceland Berry Lip Fix I went through this really fast but I really really liked it. It had a weird gritty but smooth texture and a minty berry taste I really liked this as a night/at home balm.

Repurchase: Yes

Skin Care

Sephora Collection Sleeping Mask in Pearl this is a brightening sleeping mask you put it on go to bed and wake up with better skin that is the theory I really like the green tea on I tried this one was just ok. It is sticky they all are and I used it when I needed a little moisture which it provided but I don’t feel it did a whole lot of brightening.

Repurchase: No

SpaLife Energizing Grapefruit Sheet Mask this was awful the shape was horrible the eye flaps were like upside down it was really unwearable. I ended up just spreading the serum on my face and letting it soak in it was very and did absolutely nothing. It also made my face feel kinda warm in a bad way after I had rinsed it off do not recommend this mask at all.

Repurchase: Hell No

Lush Cupcake Fresh Face Mask well this smelled like brownie batter but that’s where the love ends for me. This is supposed to be good for oily skin like helping remove the oil without stripping but I didn’t see that and it felt weird and thick and clumpy on my skin.

Repurchase: No

Clinique Acne Solutions Clearing Gel this was unremarkable and doesn’t work as well as the Clearsil one that is like a third of the price so there is no reason to get this over the drugstore one.

Repurchase: No

Biore Charcoal Nose Strip I really like these nose strips the Biore ones are the only ones that work for me and actually remove junk from my pores. My nose always feels smoother after but I try not to do them often as they are not the best for your skin all the time.

Repurchase: In the future at some point, but not the near future

Garnier Skin Active Moisture Bomb this was fine it was a gel texture and absorbed quick and didn’t break me out so on that note it checks all the boxes but I don’t feel like it did anything or moisturized my skin much so this was eh in the summer this might be nice though. I wasn’t impressed enough to buy it but I’d try another sample in the summertime if a sample comes my way.

Repurchase: No

Farmacy Honey Savior Skin Salve this was a lot like putting straight grease mixed with honey on my skin I was not a fan of the smell or texture.  It was so thick and didn’t absorb that it almost irritate my skin because it was thick and just sitting there.

Repurchase: No

Primark Gentle Facial Cleansing Wipes these are really cheap and I only use them for swatches.  They work good for swatches and I’ll probably pick up more next time I am in Primark.  They save me from using “good” ones on my swatches.

Repurchase: Yes

Purlisse Green Tea + Ginger Rejuvenating Sheet Mask I am not the biggest fan of Purlisse masks.  They are very wet and cold which is not my favorite feeling.  This was sticky when I removed it but my skin did look rejuvenated. I have a ton of sheet masks so to make me repurchase one you really have to wow me. I probably have 50 sheet masks

Repurchase: Maybe

Sephora Waterproof Eye makeup remover this is my favorite liquid eye makeup remover I have ever tried.  It doesn’t sting my eyes or get in my contacts and it takes my makeup off. It is dual phase so you have to shake it and it’s a pretty blue color I really like it.

Repurchase: Yes

Clinique All About Eyes eye cream this was ok I didn’t love it. It left a really nice velvety texture under my eyes but didn’t actually do anything. It wasn’t super moisturizing and even though it left my skin feeling smooth you couldn’t put it on under makeup because it would make concealer and foundation patchy and make my mascara smudge.

Repurchase: No

Dr. Brandt Needles No More Eye De-Duffing Gel this sample was like all dried out and thick and hard to use. There was also barely anything in the tube so it is hard to really comment on the effectiveness of this.

Repurchase: No

Body Care

Fig + Moss, which I believe is now called Among the Flowers, Pink Salt Scrub this was amazing it smells so so so goo like it has this warm undertone that is almost cookie like but not and then on   is the grapefruit smell from the grapefruit essential oils. It smells divine.  It also made my skin feel so smooth and velvety soft. I was all set to order more when I saw the price had changed. When I bought it it was $10 at Urban Outfitters and I got it on sale I was all set to shell out another ten bucks since it was so good and I see the price has almost fucking doubled and they raised it to $18 so on principal no matter how fantastic this was I just can’t $18 is ridiculous for a tiny little 4 oz jar of body scrub. I’m pouting and stamping my feet about this one for sure.

Repurchase: No, too fucking expensive now

L’Occitane Amande Milk Concentrate this was a nice lotion thick but not greasy or difficult to absorb with a nice almond scent. L’Occitane is really expensive so I won’t repurchase it wasn’t so life changing compared to all my other lotions.

Repurchase: No

Yadah Lotion this came from a Beauteque Box it was ok had a light scent was happy with it but too much effort to actively go out ad get compared to my easy and more enjoyably scented lotions.

Repurchase: No

Ulta Sweet Grapefruit Moisturizing Body Lotion I really liked the smell of this the grapefruit was nice and fruity and sweet but the lotion was just meh nothing special. I wouldn’t pick this up again unless I needed it for some kinda Ulta sale or something.

Repurchase: No, but not totally ruling it out

Fortune Cookie Soap Company Second Breakfast whipped cream this one smelled like breakfast but left me sticky not a fan of this one.  But love them to death.

Repurchase: Yes

Bliss Lemon + Sage Soapy Suds Body Wash and Bubbling Bath this smelled really nice I like sage and lemon together.

Repurchase: Yes

L’Occitane Ultra Rich Comforting Cream this was fine it was a nice thick cream but L’Occitane is way to expensive.

Repurchase: No

Scents

Bath and Body Works Scentportable in Stress Relief I can only tolerate the stress relief scent in this form because it is not as strong and overwhelming.  These are ok they make my car smell good but they are not the strongest or the longest lasting which sucks for how expensive they are. I won’t repurchase this scent but I do have a few more in my stash so you will see more of these coming eventually as I work through them.

Repurchase: No

Bath and Body Works Scentportable in Cinnamon Carmel Swirl this was a really great scent nice ad sweet and warm which I loved for the Christmas season this also lasted longer I could smell it in my car off and on for longer than some other ones I have used But again once I go through my stash I don’t know If I will repurchase.

Repurchase: Maybe

Fortune Cookie Soap Company Tea Light I can’t remember the fragrance on this one it came in some random box. It was filled with glitter and I think that is why this didn’t burn that great it was just weird and not a great one.

Repurchase: No

Nicole’s Home Accents Raspberry Sorbet candle it was a favor I got at my cousin’s baby shower it smelled great in the candle like a raspberry and cream but lit it didn’t smell like anything.

Repurchase: No

Bath and Body Works Aquarius Candle (Eucalyptus Rain) in the jar I didn’t like the smell but lit I really liked it. It smelled very clean but without giving me a headache which eucalyptus can sometimes.

Repurchase: Yes

Bath and Body Works Wallflower in Cinnamon Pretzel Twist this smells just like a cinnamon pretzel right down to the salt and butter. It was very overwhelming at first but after a week or two it faded down and was much more tolerable. The butter smell at the beginning was just too strong for me I have no real desire for my house to smell like melted butter.

Repurchase: No

Bath and Body Works Stress Relief Candle I actually used this up months ago, well technically my girlfriend did.  This started to give me a headache with how strong and eucalyptus it is.  This never got into my empties because I wanted to get a candle warmer to finish up the wax on the bottom and I finally got one. Also highly recommend it has been awesome. On the warmer I can enjoy the smell since it isn’t so strong and I was able to get all the waxed cleaned out so I can reuse the jar. I plan to store my dirty makeup brushes in it so that they can be out of the way

Repurchase: Yes for my girlfriend but not for me

Bath and Body Works Enjoy the Milk and Cookies (Merry Cookie) Candle well this did smell like sugar cookies but didn’t have the best throw and it got worse and almost smelt like burnt cookies at the end so I wont repurchase keeping the adorable jar though.

Repurchase: No

Bath and Body Works Define Naughty (Spice) Candle this smells like red hots. It burned really really well and really clean. I didn’t like the smell but the jar was cute.

Repurchase: No

Random

Dove Go Fresh Revive Deodorant I really liked the pomegranate and lemon verbena scent on this unfortunately this is not the greatest in terms of lasting power this really wore off after a few hours which I normally do not have a problem with. I have one more but after that I will not be rebuying these.

Repurchase: No

Two Shick Razor handles these are dirty and gross I have new ones and back up ones so these have lived their life.

Repurchase: Yes, already have

Fortune Cookie Soap Company Hide and Seek Whipped Soap I LOVE there whipped soaps they are so creamy and nice to use and leave your hands clean and lotioned at the same time this was a nice sweet christmasy scent.

Repurchase: Yes

Perfume

Micheal Kors Sexy Ruby Perfume this smelled well sexy I really enjoyed it.  I can’t really pin down the scent but I got a lot of compliments on it so I may have to buy this.

Repurchase: Probably

Rag and Bone Oddity Perfume this is a very complex unisex perfume I used it as like a linen/room spray like I do with a lot of perfume samples I get. It was a little too strong and complex with too many smells for my tastes.

Repurchase: No

Hair Care

Gloss Moderne Clean Luxury Maque I hate this see my Sephora Play Review for January.

Repurchase: No

Declutter

Son & Park Beauty Water this did nothing and was useless for taking off make up or cleansing my skin in any way so this is being decluttered.

Marc Anthony Deep Repair Aloe Vera and Jasmine hair mask why do I keep using this? I hate it every time I don’t like the smell or how puffy and volumized it makes my hair.  It makes my hair just too big.  So I am committing to decluttering this and any future samples of this.

Clinique Perfect Pout Lip Balm this I did not like it was too thick and that made it patchy also the color is too pink for my taste especially with being patchy and opaqueish.

Clinique Night Lip Mask this was sticky and thick and slid right off my lips it did not do any moisturizing like a lip mask should this was a fail all around for both the Clinique samples I tried.

Tarteist Lash Paint I am currently using a tube of this and this is a second one I had in my stash I like it just fine (Full review when I use it up). But I know this is a mascara my mom will love this is her kind of mascara gives a lot of length and is a wet formula so I can’t justify keeping it to get to it eventually when she’ll actually use it soon and like it.

Cake Heavy Cream Intensive Hand Repair Balm I was really excited to try this but the smell makes me sick to my stomach I got about half way through it but I just can’t suffer through it anymore. It is a super thick balm cream If you can handle the smell and like thick creams you would probably like this, but for me I HATE the smell of milk or cream and this smells just like thick cream to me. It almost smells like sour milk (Granted even fresh milk smells sour to me so it might not really smell that way).

Sexy Hair 450 Degree Headset this is a protecting spray this is one of those like ugh I am so angry at myself like I should have returned this and didn’t.  I hated this it was so sticky and made my hair clump together and I couldn’t style it or dry it. It was a fucking mess same with the next product.

Sexy Hair Soya Want Flat Hair this is a flat iron spray that is supposed to help make straightening your hair better, but I had the same problems as the other sexy hair product and it smelled weird.

Alterna Caviar Miracle Multiplying Volume Mist this is just not something I use. I don’t look for volume in my hair but if you do this is nice it just isn’t for me.

My Amazing Leave-in secret conditioner I got this in an Ipsy bag forever ago and it did nothing for me. I just don’t want to keep trying to make this work.

39 lip products I am not going through all of these some have been used some have been swatched some have never been touched. Most I am getting rid of because they are just colors I will never wear or formulas I don’t like or just I have something similar that I like better.  We would be here for 8 years just talking about these individual lipsticks and such. This post is already long enough.

Total: 90

Average per Day: 2.9 products per day

I can’t believe I used up 6 candles that is absolutely nonsense. This was some month for using stuff up but January always is for me because it is also when I start to really be like I need to get rid of things that I am not using. I toyed with the Idea of figuring out the value of everything I use up but with school that is just more work that I do not have time for maybe next year after I have graduated because it does sound fun just very time intensive. Instead I am going to do total. And what I am averaging per day (just for funsies) I am aiming to use up 365 for an average of 1 item a day so I’m off to a solid start and this should give me some buffer room in those months I use up less.

Fortune Cookie Soap of the Month Club January 2018 Subscription Box Review

Fortune Cookie Soap of the Month Club

Cost: $28 monthly + $6.95 shipping ($34.95)

Cycle: Every Month

What is it: Well anyone that has been here for any amount of time knows I love this company and use their products all the time (#notsponsered lol but for real no I’m way to small time for that shit).  Fortune Cookie Soap Company (FCS) makes bath and body products with all different themes and scents. Usually inspired by movies, or tv shows or other pop culture things. It is seriously really fun they stuff. I could go on and on about it but I’ll save my gushing the products are always great quality and have that homemade, made with love touch with out feeling DIY. Also for a bonus alot of their products are vegan.

The FCS of the Month Club every month will send a mix of full sized and deluxe sized products, saving you 50% off retail.  Every month is a different theme and you can skip a month if you aren’t feeling that month’s theme as long as you skip it before the 10th of the month. You will also earn points for what you spend on the box and purchases each month that you can redeem for reward certificates basically to shop on the cite which is a great plus.

Everyone ready for a little bit of a story time?

I don’t even remember how I found this company but I found it about 4 years ago maybe a little bit more and until just recently they had a quarterly subscription box that I subscribed to it was my first subscription box ever It was wizard of oz themed and it made me so happy.  Getting packaged from them every season or when I placed orders really brought a bright spot into a less then positive time in my life so I really have a soft spot for them.

I never reviewed the boxes I don’t know why but you always saw the products in my empties because I always use them up.When they canceled the quarterly box I was really sad this box is quite a bit more expensive then the quarterly and that I am not particularly fond of but I can’t not have their products constantly in my life so I am ponying up and we will see together if it is worth the cost. (I’ll keep buying it regardless just FYI).

So the theme is Princesses and Villains, all themed after Disney Princesses and Villains is that not so adorable. I am a total Disney Freak. The only problem is that alot of the stuff sells out and you can’t get it and once a collection is gone it could be gone forever.

Sea Witch Bath Bomb

Full Size: Yes

Full Size Cost: $4.99

Ursula themed bath bomb! The scents are always so awesome this is strawberries, salt, driftwood, and pink sugar. I don’t take alot of baths so I actually haven’t used their bath bombs personally I usually gift them to friends when I make up gift baskets and they have all given them thumbs up.

Part of Your World Sea Salt Hair Spritz

Full Size: 4 oz

Full Size Cost: $9.99

Sample Size: 4 oz

Value: $9.99

Water Lilies, sandalwood and marine notes? not quite sure what that means this pretty much just smells like water lilies to me. But you can’t have Ursula and not Ariel. Their hair products usually work well for me but my hair is so so dehydrated right now I can’t even attempt salt in my hair but I love their tip for using this when you braiding your hair and I completely plan on doing that when I use this. I know I will never use this up completely because I don’t use sea salt sprays on my dry hair but I’m down to try it at least.

Shadow Man Charcoal Whipped Soap

Full Size: 3.2 oz

Full Size Cost: $8.99

Sample Size: 3.2 oz

Value: $8.99

Who doesn’t want a silver grey whipped soap? I love charcoal anything I cheated and only used it on my hands but it felt nice and soft I can’t wait to use it on my blemish prone skin on my chest and shoulders charcoal always helps me out there. This is red velvet scented but I don’t smell it but that’s ok you had me at charcoal.

Briar Rose Pillow Spray

Full Size: 2.1 oz

Full Size Cost: $12.99

Sample Size: 2.1 oz

Value: $12.99

Of course Aurora a.k.a. sleeping beauty has a pillow spray. This is bergamont and orange two of my favorite scents with roses. Now I’m really allergic to roses but I couldn’t smell them at all and haven’t had a bad reaction to it so fingers crossed I’m same. This smells so gooits like a lighter sweeter version of happiness from Bath and Body Works if you have ever smelled that. I love their linen sprays and have used up two or three bottles of them. Having them to spray on my sheets before bed really helps me sleep a little better.

Glass Slipper Exfoliating Foot Stick

Full Size: Yes

Full Size Cost: $14.99

This is vanilla hazelnut and I was not expecting this to work at all. My feet are rough they are bad my callous are so bad they hurt and get really dry some times. This didn’t get rid of them or scrape them as much as a pumice stone or blade would but it did really soften them I could see this helping if I use it every day but it is going to go really fast which is a big down side to this product.

Sorcery & Seduction Walnut Body Scrub

Full Size: 2.2 oz

Full Size Cost: $8.99

Sample Size: 2.2 oz

Value: $8.99

So is this Jafar themed? Jasmine themed? Just Aladdin in general themed? Not really sure, but it smells like I think the movie would.  Jasmine, nectarines, amber, and walnuts. There was once a walnut face scrub and it was magical I wish it would come back. I am hoping this will have the same kind of effect

Mistress of All Evil Body Frosting

Full Size: 1.2 oz

Full Size Cost: $9.99

Sample Size: 1.2 oz

Value: $9.99

Woah this is costly $10 bucks for an ounce that’s a bit much.  This is supposed to be antioxidant rich and make your skin moisturized soft and smooth so lets see but I’m reserving judgement for now but that is a lot for lotion. This is pomegranate, marshmallow, maple wood, and amber scented. Very Maleficent. It is also the coolest looking thing look at those swirls.

Total: $70.93

We received all full sized products this month which is awesome.  At $70.93 you are paying just under half that half is $35.47, which means you pay only 49% of the cost of these items. That is a good value for an indie company and receiving these products to try but granted not the best subscription box value around. You have to want these types of products, and want to only get from one brand.  I will say you won’t be disappointed if you give them a shot even if you just shop instead of subscribing. I really recommend them time and time again. Plus the themes are just so cute.

Sephora Play! January 2018 Subscription Box Review

Sephora Play!

Cost: $10.00 monthly + tax

Cycle: Every Month

What is it: Every month our favorite money sucking store Sephora sends out a curated box of higher end samples to try out.  Every month you receive 5 samples and a perfume sample.  The boxes are customized with a few different variations being sent out each month.

There is a small survey that Sephora has you take that helps Sephora curate a box to your needs. There is also a card included in the box for a complimentary mini makeover (which are complimentary any way so I don’t really get that) and 50 extra points if you purchase something in store.

And another meh box from Sephora I don’t know how but they always seem to send me the box I want least from all the options I don’t get it.

Make Up For Ever Artist Face Color in B302

Full Size: 5 g

Full Size Cost: $23

Sample Size: 1.3 g

Value: $5.98

This is a satin finish peach blush if you’re a blush person you’d probably like this blush it is really smooth and light in color so you can build it up. There is not place for this in my life. I can’t even use it as an eyeshadow it is just two light of a color. Swatched Below.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Gloss in Kristen

Full Size: 4.5 g

Full Size Cost: $16

Sample Size: 2 g

Value: $7.11

This is a really pretty color I wish it wasn’t a gloss. I can’t do the stickyness on my lips just no. This has the oddest paddle shaped doe foot applicator that I’d be curios to try out. I think I have to see if they have this shade in a liquid lip or lipstick that I could do. It is a nice mauve nude shade. Swatched Below.

Gloss Moderne Clean Luxury Masque

Full Size: 120 ml

Full Size Cost: $65

Sample Size: 7 ml

Value: $3.79

This product is like a serious WTF why are you so expensive product. My first gripe is they sell travel packets that are 9 ml so why is the sample pack 7 ml like don’t be so damn cheap gives us a full travel pack they both are foil packets just the same. I am sure it costs the company more to produce this alternate size for samples then for just making extras of the ones they are already selling.  Also this did nothing for my hair. I was so excited at first because it does smell awesome it smells like sweet luxurious coconut and felt really nice on my hair.  Then it did nothing for my hair no shine, no added softness, not frizz reduction nothing.

Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream

Full Size: 15 ml

Full Size Cost: $26.50

Sample Size: 3 ml

Value: $5.30

I like the price of this eye cream that seems fair to me for an eye cream. I don’t love the applicator it feels to big and awkward under my eye so I use my fingers. It is a little sticky under the eye but does feel like a nice eye cream for the one time i used it definitely a good morning cream it sinks in fast. I’m cool with the tiny sample because I tend not to like the pep-start line this is also perfect size to finish up in like one vacation so after that vacation I’ll have a good feel if I like this or not. So check in next months empties for a more in depth review.

Glamglow Supercleanse Clearing Cream to Foam Cleanser

Full Size: 150 g

Full Size Cost: $32

Sample Size: 15 g

Value: $3.20

So I saved the two products I am excited about for last. I have wanted to try this cleanser but it is a ridiculous price for a cleanser. I like cream to foam cleansers so as soon as I finish up the one I’ve been diligently working on for like a year now.

Boscia Exfoliating Peel Gel

Full Size: 150 ml

Full Size Cost: $34

Sample Size: 30 ml

Value: $6.80

This is one of those chemical peel things that like balls up all the dead skin on your face. This was a little more gentle then I wanted but that is ok. I have really oily skin and it can get really grubby and dull sometimes (Yes gross and terrible I know).  I wanted a little more exfoliating out of this but it is a great gentle chemical exfoliator I am a fan but I don’t think I will buy it.

So two things I really like one that I’m content with and 3 that just are not for me. Once again this month seems a little lackluster. Nothing was like wowing me, even a bigger size of one of the products would have made this a better box even if it was a product I didn’t like.

Makeup: 2

Hair Care: 1
