Ipsy April 2020 Subscription Box Review

Ipsy Bag

Cost: $12 monthly, $132 annual

Cycle: Every Month

What is it: Every month Ipsy sends out a cute makeup bag of samples and full size items. You can review your bag for points that you can trade in for reward items. The rewards change often and the range between 300 points and 1000 points. You can get around 95 points every month.

If you want to subscribe you can subscribe HERE and skip the waitlist. That is my referral link so I do get points to spend but I’m not an affiliate I don’t make any money or anything it’s just one beauty junkie to another.

You can now customize your bag and pick out one sample per month that will get to be in your bag which is a pretty nice change even though it came with a price increase.

I was surprised this showed up so early this month with everything going on I am really not sure if or when anything will be showing up.

The bag is very springy and the pull is made of wood which is really cute.

Space Case Bronzer in Fakecation On Mars

Full Size: 3.5 g

Full Size Cost: $9

Sample Size: 2.5 g

Value: $6.43

So Space Case doesn’t have any bronzers on their site but all their face products are the same weight and price so I based it off of the blushes. This is a really smooth bronzer but the color is just really weird. It is very warm and very orange. I don’t know that this will work for me but the packaging is so cute that I want to try.

Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Salt

Full Size: 246 ml

Full Size Cost: $53

Sample Size: 40 ml

Value: $8.62

So this will be my third jar of this product. This is like a two or three times a year product for me because I have dry hair and don’t use alot of styling products so I don’t get so much build up on my scalp. This will scrub your scalp and get it super like actually squeaky clean. It is very drying to your hair though like I am very careful to make sure it only stays on my roots and scalp and doesn’t get on the rest of my hair. This jar at this size legit last me a year because I need it so infrequently. Really good product and it smells nice and salty and beachy too.

Helios Luminor Nail Polish in Livin’ Lovely

Full Size: 15 ml

Full Size Cost: $12.50

Sample Size: 15 ml

Value: $12.50

I don’t ever wear nail polish but this is a super pretty dusty mauve that I will probably throw on my toys once and then it will sit in my dark cabinet for the rest of its life with the rest of the polish I own and don’t use lol.

Sugar Wingman Waterproof Microliner in 01 I’ll Be Black

Full Size: 0.55 ml ?

Full Size Cost: $15.99

Sample Size: 1.6 ml

Value: $15.99 ?

I have alot of confusion with this product. It is sold out and has a different name on the website so I don’t know if that is old packaging or this is old packaging. It also says that the full size is 0.55 ml (which is tiny) and this says it contains 1.6 ml, so I am guessing that is a typo and that this is a full size. I like Sugar eyeliners but I have too many open right now just to swatch a black liner.

Glossier Priming Rich Moisturizer

Full Size: 50 ml

Full Size Cost: $35

Sample Size: 15 ml

Value: $10.50

This is the item I chose this month, Glossier is a brand I always want to try but never want to take the risk in purchasing. This feels so luxurious on my skin. It is so smooth and feels so nice. It is scented though which may bother some people but it is a really clean scent that I happen to like. This is a really thick smooth primer and moisturizer combined. The most exciting thing in this months bag.

Other then the Glossier and the scrub the bag was just ok for me this month. But it was nice to have mail despite all that is going on.

What’s In My Trash? March 2020

Happy Quarantine or Self-Isolation or what ever we are calling it now. I have been so so productive my house has never been cleaner I have reorganized closets that I have wanted to organize for over a year. All this to keep myself from going completely stir crazy. How are you all doing? I have also been masking so much since I have the time its nice. I am on track for the year with my goal but this month I actually felt short of the monthly average I need but I was so over the first two months that all is well on that front for now.

Skincare (16)

BioRepublic Green Tea Detox Mask this was nice enough it made my skin feel good and look a little less congested and brighter. Sheet mask are hard because even if they work and are nice so are most of them so unless I love it, I’m not going out of my way to find them.

Repurchase: Eh Maybe

Perricone MD Cold Plasma Plus+ Neck & Chest Broad Spectrum 25 I don’t need a dedicated expensive neck specific cream but it was fine. A bit thick but not awful.

Repurchase: No

Biossance Squalane + Omega Repair Cream this is a fine moisturizer I love how cool and creamy it feels but it is a bit thick for my liking.

Repurchase: No

Ulta Beauty Strawberries & Champagne Hydrating Glitter Peel Off Mask this really did smell like champagne which I wasn’t expecting but the scent dissipated quickly. I really didn’t like this mask at all. There was glitter in it but it was minimal my main problem with this is that it never dried for me to be able to peel it off and it was so sticky and hard to get off. I have had good luck with Ulta mask in the past but this was not good.

Repurchase: No

Yes to Super Blueberries Recharging Greek Yogurt & Probiotics Mud Mask this was so thick and stick I couldn’t even get it spread over my skin.

Repurchase: No

Soo Ae Donkey Milk Skin Gel Mask this is very hydrating and nourishing but also very sticky. I don’t like that overly gelled sticky feeling it leaves on my skin but if you have drier skin this may be great for you. I don’t hate it enough to use up what I have but I would not repurchase:

Repurchase: No

Pacifica Crystal Lit Moon Oil this is supposed to be a guess a rejuvenating oil with lavender and blue tansy but for some reason there’s a ton of glitter in it for no damn reason and it left my skin feeling congested and blue and glittery! I ended up using it as a body oil on my legs and it was pretty and shimmery but definitely not a serious skincare product.

Repurchase: No

Purlisse Watermelon Energizing Marshmallow Peel Off Mask this wasn’t great but it wasn’t terrible either. It was so incredibly sticky that it was hard to spread around on my face to get an even layer. It smelled like watermelon candy which didn’t bother me but it you are sensitive this probably would bother you. For a peel off mask it wasn’t too painful either, but it did have glitter in it which makes this a total no for me. This left my skin looking brighter and feeling softer but also really dry.

Repurchase: No

NuFace Prep-n-Glow Dual Sided Cloth these are my favorite face cloths ever them make my skin feel nice and exfoliated and clean and glowing I really hate how expensive they are so that I end up saving them as special treats.  I’ll use my $10 Macy’s coupon to get the travel size pack for free which is the only way I can bear to buy them at $2 dollars a wipe.

Repurchase: Yes

Strivectin TL Advanced Tightening Neck Cream I didn’t like this it was so thick but not spreadable so it was really hard to rub in which I feel like would be more damaging to your skin over time then helpful.

Repurchase: No

Leaders Pore-Scaling Black Aqua I don’t know that this did that much I just really can’t say. I have a few more so maybe I’ll notice something next time I try.

Repurchase: No

Double Dare OMG! 4 in 1 Kit Zone System Mask my skin needed this the day I used it and I really liked it. It was a multi mask so it came with under eye gels, a charcoal mask for oily spots a kaolin clay mask for the more normal parts of your skin and then a moisture cream to put on after you take the masks off. I really loved it my skin felt a lot smoother and soothed after. The only thing is I can and often do multi mask like this with all the mask I have so this is more convenience over necessity.

Repurchase: Maybe

Yes To Pore Perfection Paper Mask this mask was really small and did nothing. I really don’t love the Yes To line. I have like maybe 3 or 4 items from them left that I just need to use up and get them out.

Repurchase: No

Whole Foods Cotton Cupra Hydrating Coconut Mask this was a very drippy mask which I don’t love. It felt nice on though very cooling and soothing but did absolutely nothing, not even hydration once I took it off.

Repurchase: No

Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask I don’t get this mask it felt cooling and moist but left my skin a bit tight. I don’t understand I feel like this mask was trying to do too much and failed.

Repurchase: No

Dermal Wine Collagen Essence Mask I really liked this it really hydrated and plumped my skin when it was in a dehydrated bad place.

Repurchase: If I saw it somewhere yes

Random (3)

Daylogic Brush Cleanser this wasn’t a great soap it took extra effort to get stains out of brushes.

Repurchase: No

Degree Motion Sense Deodorant Fresh Energy favorite deodorant I I like the scent the feeling and the performance.

Repurchase: Yes

Aquaphor Oinment I love Aquaphor I use it for so many thing lip balm. To heal chaffing or dry spots. For tattoos just an all-time loved product. Life essential.

Repurchase: Always and Forever

Home Scents (5)

Swan Creek Candle Co. Drizzle Melt in Valencia Orange & Grapefruit this is one of my favorite wax brands because they have great scent throw. While the scent on this was so nice and bright and citrusy which I love it wasn’t as strong as their sweeter scents.

Repurchase: Probably not

Bath and Body Works Strawberry Pound Cake Candle this smelled so good but I could hardly smell it while it was burning. I wanted this to be like my strawberry shortcake wonderland smelling dream candle and it just wasn’t.

Repurchase: No, Jar’s cute though

Trader Joe’s Lemon Cookie Scented Candle this was really nice it smelled like iced lemon cookies it was yummy it burned along time for such a small candle I don’t like that there was so much wax left in the bottom and on the sides I like for candles to burn a bit cleaner than this one did but for $4 it was good.

Repurchase: Yes

Bath and Body Works Wallflower in Fresh Orange this was a nice orange scent but it was one of the wallflowers that isn’t as strong and I prefer the really strongly scented ones.

Repurchase: No

Bath and Body Works Blackcurrant Vanilla Candle this is a much more fancy sexy scent then I would normally burn but I really really enjoyed it. Normally I would have been disappointed in the scent throw of this one but since it was such a strong dominate scent the weaker scent through worked in its favor. I also really like the jar it came in the frosted purple glass is super pretty.

Repurchase: Maybe

Lip (3)

Lipsmacker Mickey Mouse Ch-ear-ful Cherry I liked the cherry flavor of this but it was very very read and really was messy looking on my lips. Some Lipsmackers are really waxy and some are smooth this was one of the smooth ones and I appreciated that. I got a whole pack of different flavors when Target had that Mickey Mouse collection.

Repurchase: No

Laniege Lip Sleeping Mask in Vanilla I like these and they are very hydrating in that more thick gel type of way but they are not life changing. I did not like this flavor as much as the previous flavors I have tried it was kinda bland.

Repurchase: No

Skyn Iceland Berry Lip Fix this is one of those things that I loved when I had a sample of but the full size didn’t live up to how much I liked it in the smaller size. You could kinda feel taste the berry and the texture more in the small size the full size was more smooth as well as being more sloppy to apply since more would come out of the bigger applicator.

Repurchase: No

Makeup (3)

Urban Decay 24/7 Slide On Glide On Eyeliner in LSD I love these liners but LSD is just not the liner for me. It was always a drier formula because of the glitter and it has completely gotten to dry too use now. It was too dark of a blackened blue for me and I wasn’t super fond of the glitter. They are great liners in general though.

Repurchase: No

Mac Eyebrows in Spiked they have since repackaged this to have a spoolie which is great it was pretty annoying that this didn’t have one. This is a really stiff non retractable pencil and it took me awhile to get used to if but I think I like it better than a softer pencil. I am using a softer pencil now but we shall see. This color was a bit to warm for me I would try a darker cooler shade probably Stud if I bought it again.

Repurchase: Maybe

Fenty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer this was nothing special as a primer it was pretty sticky so it held on to my foundation well. But it didn’t blur or fill pores or hydrate or anything I would want it to do.

Repurchase: No

Lotion (1)

Hempz Candy Cane Crush Triple Moisture Herbal Whipped Body Crème this was not as thick as the other lotions that had come in this scent. It was more mint then candy cane which was really refreshing. It wasn’t that great though I felt like ten minutes after I put it on I needed to reapply.

Repurchase: No

Bodycare (2)

Lush Marmalade Jelly Bomb this took forever to break up and dissolve in the tub. It smelled good I love citrus things and turned the water so orange but unfortunately this left my skin really dry.

Repurchase: No

Up & Up Epsom Salt For Soaking in Eucalyptus & Spearmint this is not as good as the Dr. Teals one it claims to be comparable to at all. It didn’t have as strong of a scent and didn’t dissolve as well. It also didn’t feel as relaxing for my muscles as the Dr. Teals ones do.

Repurchase: No

Haircare (3)

Marc Anthony Repairing Macadamia Oil Deep Rescue Conditioning Treatment I thought I was going to love this when I was in the shower but it did not agree with my hair after it dried. It made my hair feel really silky soft, but it gave me a lot of frizz and fly-aways. It didn’t leave me with that lovely shiny glossy just washed hair feeling.

Repurchase: No

Pure Brazilian Deep Conditioning Masque this was meh its didn’t do anything to my hair at all.

Repurchase: No

Tony Moly Angel Glow Ring Hair Mask they don’t make this any more which is sad because it is a really nice hair mask even if it is a bit labor intensive. You put a mask on freshly washed wet hair and then sit with the provided shower cap on for twenty minutes then rinse it out. It makes my hair so glossy and smooth.

Repurchase: I would if it comes back

Declutter (5)

Covergirl Sponge this is hard as a rock and feels like tough rubber. It does not blend well or wash well this is awful.

She Makeup Abracadabra Mega Volume Mascara there is so little mascara in this tube that you can’t cover the brush and it is really gunky.

AOA Studio Fat Lash Mascara this is just too light and natural and too much work to coat the lashes.

Nyx Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator in Gleam this is just chucky and patchy and does not look great on the skin. I am pretty sure they have reformulated this but I have no interest in trying it. Essie Nail Polish in Viva Antiguai I am really not a nail polish person but I have a few bottles and I am trying to paint my toe nails and this I didn’t like. The color was not as bright on as I thought it would be and it was really liquidy and if a polish needs more than two coats its an automatic no for me.

That was a whole lot of big stuff this month. Pretty good I think. I have to use up roughly $291 worth of product per month to be on track for the year I was like $20 something short this month but I was way over the past two month so I am still ahead which is great.

30 Beauty Questions Tag

Well my house has never been cleaner and I am running out of things to do here in Self-Isolation. Hope every one out there is staying safe and at home and washing their hands. I downloaded Tik Tok so like that’s where I am on on my Social Distancing journey. So I am taking a break from that time suck to do a beauty tag that I found on Anna’s blog The Beauty Section.

Grab a snack (if there are any left I know I ate all mine) or a nice drink (since its always happy hour in quarantine) this is a real long post.

1// Do you remember your first makeup item?

Uh not like totally because I’m sure my mom must have given me glosses to wear and play with and what not when I was little. I remember the first items I bought for myself thought when I was like 13ish. I had a black liquid liner like marker style, a black pencil liner and then a little old school Urban Decay palette the purple one with the butterflies on it.

I would do the heavy black rings around my eyes every day, #emokidforlife. Then the eye shadow was for special occasion and I would use Mildew I don’t even know if they make that shade anymore it was like a mildew shimmery green all over my lid crease everything it was a good idea but bad execution. Maybe I should try to do like a better version of how I did my makeup back then that could be kinda fun. I don’t think I have any pictures from back then I’ll have to look in my old hard drive.

2// Describe your perfect mascara. Have you found one that fits your specifications?

I like mascaras that really lengthen and thicken my lashes I tend to prefer a more heavy formula since my lashes are pretty curled naturally and they can hold it. I really like Too Faced Better Than Sex, I like Stila Huge Extreme a lot. I L’oreal Unlimited mascara in the funky bottle that can stand up on its own. With all my subscriptions I never actually need to buy mascara.

3// What kind of coverage do you prefer from foundation?

Preferably none I really don’t prefer to wear it but if I am going to I use foundation I like a light to maybe medium coverage. I’ll only wear full coverage for days I’ll be taking lots of important pictures.

4// Favorite high end brand?

I don’t really know any more because I feel like most brand I have a favorite type of item from but I don’t like everything from any brand. I have loved everything I have tried from Jeffree Star, I love Urban Decay Eyeliners, I love Sugar Pill Eyeshadows, I love Abh liquid lipsticks and brow stuff. It’s just to hard to say.

5// What cosmetic brands have you always wanted to try but still haven’t?

More indie brands in general, especially Menagerie Cosmetics.

6// Favorite drugstore brand?

Colourpop, Covergirl (base products), Makeup Revolution.

7// Do you wear fake eyelashes?

Very rarely, and I usually use the magnetic ones if I do.

8// Is there any kind of makeup you can’t leave the house without?

No, I am totally fine going out without makeup but I won’t go out to see friends or go somewhere without eyeliner that would be my first repurchased item if all my makeup went missing after I had a very long meltdown about it.

9// What is your most cherished beauty product?

Either my Sugar Pill Pro palette (I really want to make another but they are so pricey), or my Melt Cosmetics Vida and Muerte palettes because they are like works of art when you put them together.

10// How often do you shop for makeup? Do you like to pick up an item here and there or get lots of goodies at once?

Too often is that an answer? I buy to make up at least once a week in addition to all my boxes. I usually only get one or two things I rarely do a large haul of things but it feels both amazing and overwhelming when I do.

11// Do you have a “beauty budget” or do you spend freely?

No I just have a life budget and if it doesn’t fit in my life budget I can’t get it. I do use coupons and gift cards and sales to score a lot of free and cheap makeup up. I rarely buy anything full price.

12// Do you utilize coupons, rewards cards and sales when you shop for cosmetics?

YES! I am a crazy couponer when it comes to makeup, I am always trying to match sales and coupons to get things for free. I use points at stores and I use Rakuten to get money back if I shop online. It is actually legit I was super suspicious but you really do get a check in the mail.

13// What type of product do you buy the most of?

Eyeshadow or eyeliner.

14// Is there a brand that you absolutely can’t stand?

Well Kat Von D was one but now its KVD Vegan Beauty so it remains to be seen what my feelings on that are. I have pretty much disliked everything I have tried from It Cosmetics except the brushes and the Super Hero Liner. I do not like Ulta brand makeup.

15// Do you avoid certain ingredients in cosmetics like parabens or sulfates?

No parabens and sulfates have not been scientifically proven to be bad for you and parabens are a very effective way of keeping products preserved and safe to use so I have no problems with them. I do avoid anything with rose or rose oil because I am allergic. I do try avoid excessive alcohol in skincare but I don’t kill myself to avoid it.

16// Do you have a favorite place to shop for makeup?

No I like to shop everywhere Ulta, CVS, Sephora, online everywhere.

17// Do you like trying new skincare products of do you keep a certain routine?

I love trying new skincare products. I always want to try new things see how they work.

18// Favorite bath and body brand?

Fortune Cookie Soap Company!!!!!! Their stuff is in my empties all the time you know that if you follow me regularly.

19// If you could only buy from one brand, which brand would you choose?

Urban Decay, They vibe with me I like their color stories, they make my favorite eyeliner, my favorite setting spray, they have a primer I know I really like. So they have tried and true products in all my most important categories.

20// What brand do you think has the best packaging?

Makeup Revolution/I Heart Revolution always has such cute packaging that just makes me want to buy it all.

21// Which celebrity always has great makeup?

I am not really a celebrity follower so I really couldn’t tell you.

22// Do you belong to any online makeup communities?

Other than this blog and Instagram no.

23// Favorite Beauty Gurus?

Oh this is kinda hard because most of the beauty gurus I watch I watch them because I like them even though I would never do my makeup like them. But I will link them all below.

Youtubers:

Jessica Braun – Lifestyle & beauty, her content always feels fresh to me

Emily Noel – she just reviews so much and she does a lot of top five videos

Matilda – all her videos are flat lay style with just her hands, very cool

Taylor Wynn – she films a lot of foundation stuff, I learn a lot about it which is useful for doing makeup on others

Alexandria Ryan – she unboxes so much stuff and then uses it in a first impression she’s very fun and quirky

Beautbean – I want to recreate every look she does she’s all about color and grunge which is totally my style

Robert Welsh – pro makeup artist so educational and just all around amazing I am obsessed!

Just Buy the Makeup – Hailey does not bullshit and I love her for it she seems so real plus her Australian accent makes me happy lol

24// Do you like multifunctional products like lip and cheek stains?

No I feel like they never really work well for any purpose.

25// Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?

No? I mean I make mistakes does that count?

26// Do you use makeup base/primer for the eyes?

Yes always, sometimes I use a white concealer but usually an eyeshadow primer.

27// How many hair products do you use on a typical day?

None. Sometimes I use dry shampoo or a hair oil at night but really no most days.

28// What do you apply first concealer or foundation?

Foundation.

29// Do you ever consider taking makeup classes?

I am currently in a makeup academy. I love it. Though Covid-19 has kinda thrown everything off here.

30// What do you love about makeup?

I just love playing with all the colors and getting to do a different look every time. Really getting to match my look to my personality. I feel like my look instantly tells people about me and because I created that I get to feel proud of it. And I like the no pressure aspect because the worst thing that happens is you wipe it off. Like its very low scale importance so it is relaxing. Plus it is just fun.

Woah that was a long one but it was really fun. I hope some other people do this too one what ever platform they are on. Stay safe stay inside stay occupied!
