What’s In My Trash? May 2020

I know there are horrible things going on right now and it just makes my heart hurt. I understand that I will never understand but it is just so terrible what is going on right now and that atrocious things like this are occurring in this day and age it is 2020 not 1820: not that is was ok then either just you get my point. Sign the petitions learn all you can donate if you are able everything helps even if the most you can do is educate those around you. I am going to link to recourse that have things compiled in a way that is less overwhelming.

This resource has many links as well as some for countries outside of the US

It feels super trivial and ridiculous to post anything about makeup right now but it is nice to have that quick ten minute fluffy break to get away from things and let your brain relax so if you need that break right now this post is here.

I can’t believe the year is half over and we’ve all spent half of it at home. I used up an absurd amount of makeup just using up random dregs of products that I had been holding on to. Also alot of candles since I’m home all day burning them.

Skincare (16)

NuFace Prep-n-Glow Dual Sided Cloth (2) these are my favorite face wipes I wish they weren’t so expensive. They are really tough and exfoliated but don’t leave my skin feeling sore or stripped.

Repurchase: Yes

Skinceuticals Phyto Corrective Gel this is supposed to be hydrating gel for soothing and irritation. It was fine but it really wasn’t any different than a less expensive hydrating serum or hyaluronic acid would be so definitely not worth the price.

Repurchase: No

Fortune Cookie Soap Company Facial Cleansing Oil in Symbol of Hope I am sad that this is gone now FCS cleansing oils have been my makeup remover/first cleanse of choice for like 3 years now and this is the last one I had in my stash and I won’t let myself buy a new one until I have worked through the other ones I have but I am really heartbroken. I love these oils they don’t sting my eyes they take off all my makeup they don’t leave my skin feeling oily or stripped or weird they don’t break me out they smell good they don’t foam but they also emulsify just enough I Just love these so much.

Repurchase: Yes

Soo Ae Donkey Milk Skin Gel Mask these are meh they feel nice they are nourishing but they also leave me feeling super super sticky.

Repurchase: No

Innisfree Pore Clearing Clay Mask I don’t feel like this did anything and it was really sticky. It was also super annoying to get out of the jar because the mouth of the jar was thinner than the base. Stuff like that is such a pet peeve.

Repurchase: No

Cure Natural Aqua Gel so this showed up in the mail two samples of it I don’t like it it is that really chunky exfoliator that balls up to pretend it is your skin coming off but it isn’t it’s a normal chemical exfoliator also I just didn’t like it I don’t think it did anything. I just wanted them out of my life with out wasting them.

Repurchase: No

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II I don’t feel like this did anything at all.

Repurchase: No

H20+ Oasis Ultra Hydrating Cream this was a nice gel-cream I liked it but it wasn’t anything overly special but if by some absurd circumstance I ran out of moisturizer and this wasn’t that expensive and available I would use it again it was light and non-sticky which I really appreciate.

Repurchase: Maybe

Garnier Skin Active Moisture Bomb The Super Hydrating Mattifying Mask I love these masks and with coupons I get two for free every month at CVS so I have tons I use them often I they are really hydrating they feel great they wear well they have so much serum in them that I can save it in a jar and get two or three more uses out of them highly recommend.

Repurchase: Yes

Mario Badescu Spray in Orange Blossom this is the only scent I like from this line you can only get it at Ulta. I love the sage and the orange it’s a decent spray and its cheap but it isn’t really doing any skincare benefits like the more expensive sprays that I like and use but this is my filler spray for when I don’t want to spend money on the pricey sprays.

Repurchase: Yes

Shangpree Peppermint Mask these are discontinued I don’t even know where they came from but they are fine they dry up really fast when I am wearing them so it is like a 5 or 10 minute mask.

Repurchase: No

Fortune Cookie Soap Company Charcoal Face Cleanser in Cutest Monster Face this was great I kept it in my shower because this is a pretty intense cleanser and that is where I wash my face when it is actually dirty with like sweat and grime from being outside or working stuff like that. It was good but I am not overly attached to it. I did like that it was cinnamon scented but that it didn’t bother my skin or like sting my eyes that is really important to me.

Repurchase: No

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel I don’t really like this moisturizer it is really stick feels heavy but doesn’t moisturize at all.

Repurchase: No

Chanel Hydra Beauty Micro Serum this was one use I can’t really say if it did anything but it sure is expensive.

Repurchase: No

Freeman’s Pore Clearing Peel-Off Mask with Volcanic Ash there was actually two uses in this little pouch so I split it with my girlfriend. This peeled off really clean In one piece with out ripping my skin which was super great. It did clear up my really freaking out skin a bit.

Repurchase: Maybe

Random (1)

Sweet & Shimmer Face & Body Mini Wipes in Frosted Berry I love these for swatches I buy them after Christmas every year from Ulta for super cheap. They work really well and they smell really good. I would not use these on my face but for swatches or like a body refreshing wipe they are great.

Repurchase: Yes

Home Scents (6)

Bath and Body Works Wallflower in Blueberry Sugar this was not as good as the candle the scent was not as strong.

Repurchase: No

Bath and Body Works Mint Chocolate Candle this was unimpressive it smelled nice it had an ok scent throw but it wasn’t as chocolatey or minty as I wanted.

Repurchase: No

Bath and Body Works Blueberry Pie Candle love their blueberry scented candles they always have a great throw and smell really good. Even from this little candle.

Repurchase: Yes

Bath and Body Works Vanilla Cola Candy Candle this was super fun it really did smell like those Coke bottle gummy candies and I love those. But the scent throw wasn’t great. Fun but not memorable.

Repurchase: No

Scentsational Tangelo Lime Candle this was fine it smelled nice it didn’t burn as long as I would expect a giant candle to burn for but it still burned a long time and it burned clean to the bottom which is always really nice.

Repurchase: Maybe

Swan Creek Candle Co. Drizzle Melts in Roasted Espresso I love these wax melts so much I won them all at an arcade (weird I know) and then I found where you can buy them because I only have like 3 packs left. They melt for a while and they have really great scent throw. This smells straight up like espresso and it is so nice I love it.

Repurchase: Yes

Lip (3)

Chapstick Medicated this wasn’t that good I don’t feel like it medicated of healed my lips and it wasn’t moisturizing.

Repurchase: No

LipSmackers in Oh-Boy!-senberry I really loved this it was super moisturizing and it was a great flavor. I am really impressed LipSmackers.

Repurchase: Yes, if is still exists

Glossier Balm Dotcom In Mint I really loved this I love those Vaseline type balms that don’t taste or feel like Vaseline. The mint was very cooling and I could feel it for a long time on my lips. I also didn’t feel like I needed to reapply this balm every 5 minutes which is good. I cut the top open so I could get every last use out of this because it is an expensive balm. I would be very interested in trying some of the other flavors.

Repurchase: Yes

Makeup (7)

Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Eye Pencil in M-10 this was a good eye pencil it was very black and decently waterproof. It is just too dry now and too short to sharpen anymore. I don’t know that I would spend $21 dollars on it because there are other plain black waterproof eye liners.

Repurchase: No

Grande Cosmetics Grande Mascara this was really nice. I was very skeptical and did not think I would see lash growth but I actual did I mean it was minimal but it was visible. It was also a really nice lengthening mascara it made my lashes look so so long. Very smudgey.

Repurchase: Maybe

Petite ‘n’ Pretty Fully Feathered Volumizing Mascara I didn’t want to like this at all because the marketing story matched with the price sorta annoys me but I am not going to really get into it, it just sorta seems money grabby veiled as trying to be wholesome. This was a nice mascara it was really was really full and fluffy but it was really smudgey which isn’t great but it was super easy to wash off so pros and cons.

Repurchase: No

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Fouondation in 220 this is a weird one I have a like/hate relationship with this it is so matte and doesn’t feel very comfortable it is really dry and heavy and looks that way in person. But in photos it looks really really smooth and nice I wish I could buy it in this little size to keep for just when I am doing really glam photo makeup but I don’t really want a full size. This is also “my perfect” match but it really isn’t I think a shade or two up with neutral undertones would be so so much better on me.

Repurchase: I don’t know

Shiseido Controlled Chaos Mascara Ink in Black Pulse 01 I hate when I love an expensive mascara but this was so good. It was that wild all over the place lash look that I like with a lot of my loks but it also made my lases look really long and full. This is very clumpy though so if you don’t like clumps on your lashes this is not for you.

Repurchase: Yes

Nyx Vivid Brights Liquid Liner in Vivid Escape I loved these vivid brights because for awhile they were the only cheap and easily accessible colored liquid liners but now there are others and Nyx added colors to their Epic wear line which is ten times better than this line. These are sort of a defunct product that they should probably get rid of now.

Repurchase: No

Josie Maran Surreal Skin Argan Finishing Balm in Etheric this is weird. First of all it isn’t a finishing product it’s like a primer. It is also kinda drying but makes you look really dewy and shimmery and a bit greasy. This shade? is like a translucent iridescent pink. It looks nice under matte foundation or when I am going for that really wet editorial type look but it is a strange product. I have 2 more tubs of this, I got two for free and then one in a sub box so I had almost a full size amount but it is not something I need.

Repurchase: No

Lotion (1)

Fortune Cookie Soap Company Whipped Cream in Marshmallow Dreams the scent on this was so so good it was like marshmallow fruit loops I loved it so much.

Repurchase: Yes

Haircare (4)

Fortune Cookie Soap Company Olive You Berry Much Leave-In Conditioner I don’t love leaves I feel like they don’t give me the moisture I want in my hair but I use them any way since I have them. This smelled nice but I went through it very very fast.

Repurchase: No

OGX Orchid Oil Color Protect Oil this wasn’t the moist moisturizing oil and it didn’t so much add shine as as a dry looking grease which is weird but it did actually do a lot to protect my hair color from UV rays shockingly so I have mixed feelings about that but for the price of $7 This could be worth picking up for like beach days and such to give a little protection my expensive and not very long lasting haircolors.

Repurchase: Maybe

Bumble and bumble Bb, Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Cleansing Oil-Crème Duo I hated this it is supposedly for dry hair but it was so drying and so stripping and the clear soap and the conditioning crème don’t dispense at the same rate so the experience is different every time and this was a very small bottle I knew that but it also takes a lot of product to wash my hair with it this was overall terrible. I haven’t really liked much from bumble and bumble it might just not be a brand for my hair.

Repurchase: No

Olaplex No 3 I hate that this works because it is expensive it takes a lot of product I only got two uses out of this bottle it does make my hair feel healthier and more smooth but it doesn’t add moisture or shine or anything.

Repurchase: Probably when I need it but I wouldn’t keep it on hand

Declutter (2)

Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream this has roses in it and I didn’t know and got a bad allergic reaction so this has to go.

Helios Luminor Nail Polish in Livin’ Lovely this is way to light of a color for me it almost looks like there is something wrong with my nail because it is like the same tone as my skin even though it’s obviously not the same color.

I don’t feel like I used that much or anything this month even though I did I think its just the general malaise of how self isolation is feeling.

Boxycharm May 2020 Subscription Box Review

Boxycharm

Cost: $25

Cycle: Every Month

What is it:

Boxycharm sends out 4 to 5 full size items every month which makes it really unique among the  boxes I subscribe to. It is a nice change to get all full size products especially for $25 which is usually less then the cost of one item in the box. Boxycharm also joined the customization train and you can choose between a few items to have one in your box for the month. I really like that because Boxycharm was getting to the point where I was only liking one thing in my box and even though the value was there the fun wasn’t anymore.

If you would like to subscribe you can use my referral link HERE. I don’t get anything other then points but would really appreciate it but do as you feel comfortable you are also welcome to use the link in the header that leads to the regular homepage.

You can also review your products and get “charms” which are their versions of points that you can use as money off in their shop.

I’m pretty meh about this box the item I would have chosen was sold out so I had to pick something else and I mostly have gotten things that are pretty meh and not my type of products.

Tarte Micellar Magic Makeup Remover

Full Size: 190 ml

Full Size Cost: $18

I don’t love micellar waters they tend to sting my eyes and leave a film on face that I don’t like but I know I will use this even though I don’t really like them.

Elemis Dynamic Facial Resurfacing Pads

Full Size: 60 ct

Full Size Cost: $59

This was my choice but I am not super into exfoliating pad type products anymore but we’ll see how it goes they are like almost a $1 a pad o I am sure to use them.

Pretty Vulgar Uncaged Eyeshadow Primer

Full Size: 10 ml

Full Size Cost: $22

I actually already owned this primer and have been using it for awhile it is a really good primer rght up there with primer potion from Urban Decay. It is a clear primer so it doesn’t blank out your lid or anything like that.

Appeal Cosmetics Ultra Creme Liquid Lipstick in Sugar N Spice

Full Size: 4.8 ml

Full Size Cost: $21

So this is a new product that doesn’t release until July so that is cool Love a new release in a subscription box. This is a liquefied lipstick it does not dry down matte which I am not a huge fan of but it is pretty.

Studio Makeup Ease to Wear Eyeshadow Palette

Full Size: 8.55 g

Full Size Cost: $35

This is really unimpressive. Some of the shades don’t show up on me some are patchy some are smooth it is just really boring and inconsistent.

Well not a great box for me at least. I really don’t even know what to say I will use these things but I don’t really want any of these things.

Ipsy May 2020 Subscription Box Review

Ipsy Bag

Cost: $12 monthly, $132 annual

Cycle: Every Month

What is it: Every month Ipsy sends out a cute makeup bag of samples and full size items. You can review your bag for points that you can trade in for reward items. The rewards change often and the range between 300 points and 1000 points. You can get around 95 points every month.

If you want to subscribe you can subscribe HERE and skip the waitlist. That is my referral link so I do get points to spend but I’m not an affiliate I don’t make any money or anything it’s just one beauty junkie to another.

You can now customize your bag and pick out one sample per month that will get to be in your bag which is a pretty nice change even though it came with a price increase.

I wasn’t expecting my may bag so quickly but the month I wasn’t excited for and it’s the one that comes early. The bag is really pretty I like the sherberty sunrise vibes but the bag feels really cheap this month.

F.A.R.A.H. Brushes Large Blender 25EL

Full Size: Yes

Full Size Cost: $10

I always like getting brushes in Ipsy but I don’t love F.A.R.A.H. brushes they always feel and preform at a lesser quality. This one feels better then some others from them I tried and its cute. This is a pretty dense more dome brush then a large blender and isn’t really a shape I use much I can see this getting decluttered in my future.

Benefit Roller Lash

Full Size: 8.5 g

Full Size Cost: $25

Sample Size: 3 g

Value: $8.82

I remember not liking Roller Lash but I think I want to give it another shot and see how I go with it. Not that my mascara is getting that much use right now.

Pure Brazilian Daily Anti-Frizz Serum

Full Size: 13.5 oz

Full Size Cost: $30

Sample Size: 1 oz

Value: $2.22

I tried a hair mask from them that I didn’t love but I am always here to try other things from a brand just because I didn’t like one products doesn’t mean I won’t like another. I like anti-frizz treatments alot so this will be in use soon as I can go out and need to style my hair again.

Wander Beauty Nude Illusion Liquid Foundation in Light Medium

Full Size: 30 ml

Full Size Cost: $40

Sample Size: 5 ml

Value: $6.67

Ipsy knows how much I don’t like getting foundation but they always send it anyway. Not really happy to have this but eh.

Goldfaden MD Wake Up Call Overnight Regenerative Facial Treatment

Full Size: 50 ml

Full Size Cost: $85

Sample Size: 12 ml

Value: $20.40

This was my choice for the month. I loved the last mask I tried for them it actually worked so I am hoping this works too because of how expensive these products are. Stoked for this it makes the whole bag for me.

Value was really low this month and there was only one product I am really excited about so not really the best month for me which is kinda annoying. With the situation I was hoping for a real like good bag so there was some excitement in my life but oh well.
