Boxycharm April 2018 Subscription Box Review

What is it:

Boxycharm sends out 4 to 5 full size  items every month which makes it really unique among the  boxes I subscribe to.  It is a nice change to get all full size products especially for the reasonable price of $21 which is usually less then the cost of one item in the box.

You can also review your products and get “charms” which are their versions of points that you can use as money off in their shop.

Once again I always seem to get the box variation I want the least. They sent out 5 Colourpop palettes this month one I had and one I really didn’t want so of course I got the one I didn’t want instead of one of the three I really wanted.

Dr. Brandt Pores No More Vacuum Cleaner

So the card list this as $47 and it is not $42 supposedly the price change happened after these cards were printed but just a heads up. This isn’t my most favorite mask I have ever tried frankly this is really weird but it is my most favorite thing in the box. Thank god because it is also the most expensive.  so this had little blue and white beads in it that you have to rub and break up on your face which I do not like the process of that I feel like I can’t get an even layer on my face. This has a lightly cooling sensation but nothing terrible I hate cold face masks. I don’t think this cleaned out my pores but I feel like that is something I would only see after repeated uses. This did make my skin feel softer and my pores look smaller. My only gripe with Dr. Brandt is that you always need a ton of their product so I tend to go through it really fast and this is too expensive for all that.

Adesse New York Hi Definition Liquid Lipstick in Haute Cocoa?

So I think this is Haute Cocoa but I don’t know because it isn’t listed any where not on the tube or the box or the card. This is not a matte lipstick this is a full on melted cream gloss lipstick. It is god awfully sticky. I hate this and find it really sketchy that the name isn’t on the tube. Swatched Below.

Tarte Tarteist Pro Glow Liquid Highlighter in Sparkler

Now I love me a cream or liquid highlighter but this is so full of glitter by the end of the day it was just a mess of glitter on my cheeks not a good look. This is a pretty color I can see this being really fun in the summer when I want to be more glittery but this is more a special look highlighter and for $29 dollars and its huge I would have rather this be smaller and cheaper. This has me so nervous to try my brows are already full and this is really light I think it will look really weird. I don’t do much to my brows in the first place so this is not up my alley. Swatched Below.

Lipstick, highlighter, brow tint. I tried sheering out the highlighter like you would wear it on your face but it is a little hard to see in the picture the arrow is trying to point it out.

This was $26 originally like the card says but it has been $20 for months not because it was a limited edition thing and now they need to get rid of it so it is $20 dollars. This is the one that was supposed to be Sephora exclusive and what not but it clearly wasn’t. This is all shimmers and I’m pretty salty I really wanted the Elements of Surprise or the My Little Pony one. These are really chunky and pretty inconsistent in opacity. I can make them work in a very specific way which is fine because it is the way I like to do my oh shit I have legit 45 second to do my makeup but that is the only use I have for this palette. I will pick a color tap it on really quick onto the lid with my finger pick a darker shade and quickly tap blend it out on the edge of my eye and slightly into the crease and call it done.  Since these are creamy and finger blendable I can get a a decent soft pretty look really quick but there is glitter fall out on the more glittery shades this just isn’t my favorite.

Update I am LOVING the mascara from last month so good. I said it last month and I’ll say it again it is a lot of cast off like things that companies are trying to get rid of rather then the new and best things. or skimping on quality items to make a cool collaboration with Boxycharm. The value is still there but the excitement and joy almost isn’t. And the way the boxes have been packed lately is abysmal like just thrown in the padding isn’t always wrapped around the products right like it’s really taken a downhill turn in quality. I’ll continue to buy them and recommend them because I always at least get my moneys worth but I don’t like how much things I’m getting that end up in a give away pile.

What’s In My Trash? March 2018

I could barely fit all my empties into one picture this month. I had a ton of really varied products this month and am definitely doing really well on my goal of 365 items in a year.

Declutter (20)

Wet n Wild Color Icon Rainbow Highlighter in Bronze Over the Rainbow I bought 3 of these and am getting rid of 2.  They are not the same formula as the Megaglow highlighters these are much stiffer and filled with glitter.  I just never reach for these. I also super hate the packaging they are super bulky they have this round top for no reason so you can’t stack them which makes storing them super hard and a big part of the reason I am getting rig of two of them.

Wet n Wild Color Icon Rainbow Highlighter in Everlasting Glow same as above.

Vintage Smokey Eye Pencil this was terrible I get that it is a smokey eye pencil and meant to be smudge but this was just messy and all over the place and wasn’t very dark or black on my skin after like 2 seconds.

Purlisse Blue Lotus + White Tea Sheet masks (8) So I have a ton of these ad a ton of other sheet masks I never reach for these ones I don’t hate them but I don’t love them so I am letting them go to a home where someone can like them.

Maybelline Color Tattoo I have three that have dried up 90 Vintage Plum, 85 Deep Forest, 20 Painted Purple. I like these the Leathers are not as good as the other type by these are good cream shadows that don’t crease.

Primark Lipstick I picked up a Primark Makeup Advent calendar after Christmas for like $3 bucks most of it was crap. Some was stuff I gave away like nail polish due to no interest and I am working my way through to see if I like any other the products I kept. This was promising at first. It swatched really pretty but it smells and tastes like chemical fruit and some how looked bad kids makeup on my mouth and felt weirdly dry and creamy at the same time so it needs to go.

Pur Liquid Veil 4 in 1 Spray Foundation in Tan so this is mostly finished up but It is kinda old now and it was a touch too dark when I got it and it seems so have gotten even darker over time. So this has to go. I did like it is sat ok on my skin not the worst not the best. Had decent coverage.

Medusa’s Makeup Luminous Crème Highlighter in Star Bright this is really pretty really editorial but just not for me. If you do a lot of editorial type looks this is nice but for me it doesn’t work it is a very thick greasy type consistency and never dries down and I don’t like how that feels on my skin.

Bobbi Brown Face Touch Up Stick in 4.5 Warm Natural this is like 13 years old idk why I have been holding on to this is isn’t my color it never was not that that stopped 14 year old me from using it. This needs to move on to its new home in the trash. I will say though it is old as hell and has not gone bad.

Inika Light Reflect Cream this is useless it looks pretty for about 30 seconds and then it disappears in to my skin.

Nyx Wonder Stick in Deep is used this combined with the other colors but I just don’t reach for this any more.

Makeup (6)

Smashbox Liquid Pigment in Mauve Wife I wasn’t a huge fan of this but I also kept wanting to use it so idk how I feel. It was so fucking sticky and thick which I hate but it was so opaque and lasted a really long time like even through eating. It also stayed on my lips and not all over my face.

Repurchase: No

 

Clinique Pore Refining Solutions this was meh. And it oxidized on me pretty badly like 2.5 shades.

Repurchase: No

 

Dior Addict Lip Glow in Pink Glow this is one of those color change lip balm type things and I don’t know who in their right mind would spend $34 dollars on this. I hated the texture and it was messy it made the outside line of my lips look really sloppy and in a balm type form is something I want to be able to just swipe and go not need a lip liner.  This was also not moisturizing and too thick and sticky.

Repurchase: No

 

Pur Cameo Contour In Medium I used up the contour side the matte highlight side is going back in my collection. The contour was really thick and hard to bled out but did look nice once I got it blended out. But since I only like the matte highlight side which I have limited use for it isn’t worth it.

Repurchase: No

 

Victoria Secret Kajal Liner this is one of those thick liners that you can’t sharpen but I love those. I am happy I used this up before it went bad because it is old.  But since it is discontinued and I can’t get another I am pretty sad I really liked the it was nice and black ad smokey. And so comfortable to put on and wear.

Repurchase: No

 

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara this really made my lashes look really nice and long and volumized but I didn’t find the formula comfortable to wear and it got pretty gloopy pretty fast. I also found it pretty hard to remove. This would definitely be a special occasion only mascara.

Skincare (10)

Primark Skin Revitalise Mask Chocolate this was pointless it had no benefits this for a dollar I would only recommend for like young preteen girls at a sleepover this is useless to anyone else.

South Mane Under Eye Gels I got these in a this months Boxycharm. These were very hydrating they sat on my skin for the whole 30 minutes with out slipping off or sliding around. They also reduced the puffiness I had from not sleeping well lately. These were nice.

Repurchase: Maybe

 

Gatineau Perfection Ultime Retexturing Cream this I did not like it was sticky and I didn’t see any benefits and it didn’t sink into my skin.

Repurchase: No

 

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask this smells like real watermelons, I’m not a fan of watermelons but I know that is a plus to people. This was super nice I really enjoyed this. It was nice feeling on my skin and my skin did feel softer and a teeny bit brighter. I may get this during the Sephora VIB Sale.

Nip + Fab Dragon’s Blood Fix Cleansing Pads I HATED these. They did nothing for my skin made me feel sticky and smelled super floral.

Tony Moly Pocket Bunny Moist Mist this was cute but nothing special I prefer to feel like my mist is doing something more than just wetting my face I want to at least think it is helping.

Repurchase: No

 

The Body Shop Tea Tree Anti-Imperfection Daily Solution I thought I liked this but then I got the Sunday Riley UFO oil and now I can’t go back to this it almost feels scummy on my skin like there is a film on my skin. I thought it was helping with my breakouts but when I stopped using it there was not difference so I don’t think this actually did that much.

Sephora Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover I love this it is my favorite it takes off all my eye makeup easily and does not sting or bother my contacts.

Repurchase: Yes

 

Caudalie Vine[Activ] Energizing and Smoothing Eye Cream this was neither smoothing or moisturizing or energizing this really did nothing I have far cheaper eye creams that actually feel like they are doing something don’t waste your money on this one.

Repurchase: No

 

Soo Ae Donkey Milk Sleeping Mask this is a moisturizing sleeping pack this had a lot of uses in it I think I got like 6 or 7 uses so that is a really good value. Unfortunately I didn’t really like this it feels nice and moisturizing initially on the skin but it starts to pill off which I don’t like the feeling of. I swear I have another one of these somewhere but I can’t find it anywhere. When I find it I may use it or I may declutter it.

Random (6)

Random I believe Target brand brush the ferule broke off.  I never really liked this this shape it was too dense and too big to be of use to me.

Too Faced Mascara Melt Off this didn’t really work for me I thought it seemed so super cool but it didn’t make my mascara easier to remove I still had to tug and go in with a better remover after to get everything off.

Repurchase: No

 

Gillette Fusion 5 Proglide Power Razor this is the one with the flex ball thing in it. Normally I don’t have a ton of opinions on razors but this was truly terrible. The blade felt dull like right out of the package I couldn’t get a close shave at all with this and nicked my self a ton with this.

Repurchase: No

 

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Miracle Oil I have no Idea what this is supposed to be for I used it on my knuckles and elbows and in my hair and still don’t know what the hell this is supposed to do.

Repurchase: No

 

Fortune Cookie Soap Company Solid Conditioner Bar I used this to shave with rather then wash my hair. These solid bars don’t wash my hair well. I saw a suggestion that these work for shaving and it did work decently for that purpose but I wouldn’t buy it for that.

Sephora Cotton Pads these are my favorite they are just something I pick up to fill in on online orders when I need to spend a little more to get the free item. I actually have 2 different ones I have picked up to try out a very cheap one and a high end one so you won’t see these again for awhile.

Home Scents (4)

Soap & Glory Orangeasm Body Spray I think this would be really odd as a body spray but the Orangeasm scent is my favorite soap ad glory scent it is citrusy and like peppery at the same time it reminds me of like my grandma’s garden or something and I like those herb garden type of scents. I used this as a room spray and really enjoyed it.

Repurchase: Yes

 

Bath and Body Works Wallflower in Twisted Peppermint I wasn’t into this as a room scent It was too balsamy which I don’t like and not as sweet as the lotion which I like.

Repurchase: No

 

Bath and Body Works Snowflakes and Citrus Candle this was a yummy citrusy light candle I really enjoyed it.  It burned really evenly and for a really long time.

Repurchase: Yes

 

Bath and Body Works Blueberry Sugar Candle this smelled really good it was a nice sweet blueberry scent. It was also super pretty the wax was blue and melted into a gorgeous like light navy color it was super pretty. The throw wasn’t the greatest.

Repurchase: Maybe

Lip Balm (2)

Blistex Medicated Mint Lip Balm this is too minty and burns and my lips I don’t like it at all.

Repurchase: No

 

Malin + Goetz Mojito Lip Balm first off this didn’t smell or taste like mojitos it was basically flavorless. I had a love hate thing with this lip balm it was super thick and a little sticky but it felt really slick and nice on my lips at the same time. It also kind of got every where so this was regulated to night time only which made it last forever. It also wasn;t super moisturizing but it did feel soothing which is says it was supposed to do so that claim worked out true.

Repurchase: No

Haircare (2)

Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Anti-Frizz Serum this product makes me sad. It was so good and it smells so good but it makes me break out horribly. I was using it all the time when I first bought it because it made me hair so sleek and shiny and basically did everything it said it was going to do. Then I started breaking out terribly like all around my hairline and my forehead basically the only places I tend to never break out.  Couldn’t figure out why finally realized it was this when I stopped using it for two weeks for some other random reason.  So I started just using it just on my ends and so it took me eight million years to use up. If you need a heavier oil, anti-frizz serum type thing for your hair this is awesome and not too expensive for such a giant bottle I totally recommend it. I am super sad that I can’t use it.

Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Glow Treatment Masque I was worried I wouldn’t like the smell of this with the shea and the castor oil, but it actually has a warm comforting smell. This was a really messy mask which was odd it got all over my shower as I was putting it in my hair which is weird. This was a really nice mask it made my hair feel nice and thick.

Repurchase: Yes

Perfume (1)

Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb sample I thought I would hate this based on the name but I was very wrong this smells really good it has orange blossom in it which is one of my favorite scents. I ended up using up some Sephora points on a little mini bottle of this which I can’t wait to arrive so excited. This is a very expensive perfume though so I don’t know If I will splurge on the full size.

Lotion (1)

Bath and Body Works Twisted Peppermint Body Cream I like this it was a nice thick body cream I really liked the Twisted Peppermint scent in the lotion It was nice and sweet and you can’t smell the balsam scent in it at all thank god. The mint in it also felt really nice on tired feet and leg muscles so that was a plus.

Repurchase: Maybe when it comes back out for Christmas (I have baskets of lotion so it is hard to justify more)
