Macy’s Beauty Box April 2019 Subscription Box Review

Macy’s Beauty Box

Cost: $15

Cycle: Every Month

What is it: Every month you will get a bag, a $5 off coupon (sometimes $10), 5 deluxe samples and 1 bonus sample. Why not just say 6? I don’t get it.

All the brands will be brands you can find in Macy’s which is cool since they sell Mac and a lot of other brands that are never to rarely in subscription boxes.

The cool thing about the coupon is that it is good in stores and online (beauty ships free at Macy’s) also Macy’s does have sales and $5 products so if you are strategic you can score a free product every month. Depending on your state you may still have to pay tax but it is still basically free.

So this month I got a little slip in my box that said OOPS! that they had to substitute one of my items. So the Winky Lux Gloss got subbed out for a Koh Gen Do Spa Water and I was so excited because I would have just given the Winky Lux gloss away but I’ve heard good things about Koh Gen Do and am thrilled to get a chance to try something out.

I also weirdly like this weird bag covered in eyes.

Grande Cosmetics Grande Mascara

Full Size: 6 g

Full Size Cost: $25

Sample Size: 2.5 g

Value: $10.42

Excited for this it is supposed to boost your lashes and make them healthier. I also love that the little tube is clear so I’ll actually be able to see what is going on in the mascara tube and I’ve always been curious.

Givenchy L’Interdit Perfume

Full Size: 50 ml

Full Size Cost: $91

Sample Size: 1 ml

Value: $1.82

I love Givenchy perfumes I know that is super bougie but they all smell so good and expensive without being so overpowering or like old smelling like alot of expensive perfumes do to me. I have a very picky perfume scent palette. This is floral but not in a flowery way I know that makes no sense.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream

Full Size: 30 ml

Full Size Cost: $89.00

Sample Size: 15 ml

Value: $44.50

Umm this cream better be fucking magical at that price point…. That is all I have to say. I know Elemis is pricey but damn.

Perricone MD Cold Plasma Plus+ Neck & Chest Broad Spectrum 25

Full Size: 30 ml

Full Size Cost: $89

Sample Size: 5 ml

Value: $14.83

Another super pricey brand I don’t know that I have much need for a Neck and Chest cream I am probably going to just use this as a sunscreen to be honest

Koh Gen Do Cleansing Spa Water

Full Size: 300 ml

Full Size Cost: $46

Sample Size: 40 ml

Value: $6.13

This is wrapped so well that I don’t want to unwrap it because I know it won’t spill when I bring it on a plane next month. I have seen good reviews from KathleenLights on there wipes so I am excited to try the water.

Real Her Moisturizing Lipstick in No Filter

Full Size: 3.5 g

Full Size Cost: $18

Sample Size: 3.5 g

Value: $18

This is a blush nude color but it looks like pinky concealer dead lips on my so no. Also I don’t love that very classic creamy glossy type of lipstick feel this is a no for me. I also thought it was super weird that the bottom of the lipstick describes it as a deep nude it is no where near a deep nude.

Lot of really expensive skincare this month! And surprisingly the substituted product really works out better for me.

Total Value: $95.70

Boxycharm April 2019 Subscription Box Review

Boxycharm

Cost: $21

Cycle: Every Month

What is it:

Boxycharm sends out 4 to 5 full size  items every month which makes it really unique among the  boxes I subscribe to.  It is a nice change to get all full size products especially for the reasonable price of $21 which is usually less then the cost of one item in the box.

If you would like to subscribe you can use my referral link HERE. I don’t get anything other then points but would really appreciate it but do as you feel comfortable you are also welcome to use the link in the header that leads to the regular homepage.

You can also review your products and get “charms” which are their versions of points that you can use as money off in their shop.

Another decent month for me. I always have to be really cautious and not get my hopes up for Boxycharm because alot of times the stuff doesn’t end up working out for me. I really like that they actually stuck to the happy summery festival vibes theme.

Luxie Summer Daze Brush Set

Full Size: 3 brushes

Full Size Cost: $28

I love Luxie Brushes I can never have enough of them lol. I like that they changed it up a bit and did a pink to yellow ombre it is cute. The eyeshadow brush heads are pretty standard and nice and soft. The Small contouring brush is a bit of an odd shape it really dense and fluffy looking but kinda pinched in. I have nothing like it. This set contains 209 Large Shader, 245 Small Shader (more like a mini concealer brush then a shader) and 512 Small Contouring.

Appeal Cosmetics Holographic Lip Gloss in Posh

Full Size: 2.2 g

Full Size Cost: $21

I am not opening this to swatch because I would never ever use this I am not a gloss person at all and I already have too much gloss. This looks super pretty in the tube and I like the pretty packaging with the metallic blue cap.

Bodyography Eye Pencil in Bali Bronze

Full Size: 1.1 g

Full Size Cost: $14

This claims “These eye pencils are rigid enough to provide a crisp, clean line yet can easily be smudged during application for a smokey effect.” Rigid is for sure true this is horrible I could not get any pigment off on my eyes because this is so stiff and hard. I hate eyeliners that are painful to use. This sucks because I really wanted this color in my collection and this did not work at all. It was hard to even get a swatch. Swatched Below.

Artist Couture Diamond Glow Powder in Purple Dream

Full Size: 4.5 g

Full Size Cost: $27

We have received a diamond glow powder before but it was in a different shade. I normally don’t like using loose highlighters because they are messy but I can make an exception for these because they are so gorgeous. This looks very peachy/orange in the pot but on the skin it is really like a light peach like pearly color with heavy purple shift. I love it it looks so amazingly pretty on. I lasted for hours on my face through working as I was starting to get sick so this is The star of the box for me I think. Swatched Below.

The swatch does not do this highlighter justice. All that glitter is from doing the palette swatched I should have done these first the glitter just sticks to you and does not go away.

Pur Cosmetics Festival Palette

Full Size: 15.5 g (12 shades)

Full Size Cost: $36

Another Pur eyeshadow palette. This time a fairly neutral palette masquerading as colorful. This is a technically a pressed pigment palette I am guessing from the performance of the pink shade and the glitters. This is alright but it really needs to be built up on the eyes and takes alot of fussing which I don’t love but it also meas there is little to no fallout which is also nice. The pink stains like no tomorrow this might be the most staining eyeshadow I have ever had almost to the point that it bothers me and staining usually doesn’t annoy me but this is excessive it still looked like I was wearing the shadow after I took it off. These glitters are pretty cool they are a bit sticky and really hang together you almost don’t even need a glitter glue for these they are also very very pretty. 24k Magic is like wow omg Gold and Firework is a really pretty pink and gold glitter.

There was also a sample of their eyeshadow primer Get a Grip in here which is good timing I am gona take it on my trip next month with me and test it out. I am not including it in the value but I love when palettes include eyeshadow primer samples I wish more palettes did.

I like the eyeshadow palette even though I don’t love it and I love the brushes and highlighter. The lip gloss and eyeliner is a fail for me but still I’m happier with this box then I was with January and February’s boxes.

Total: $126

Total Value to Me: $91

Yay or Nay? Colourpop Disney Villians Collection

I am a Disney freak I love all Disney stuff especially the villains. So when Colourpop came out with a villains collection to follow up the Disney Designer collection they did for the princesses I was in even though I don’t love Colourpop formulas alot of the time.

Info:

This is available at Colourpop’s website and at Ulta with Ulta carrying a limited selection of the collection.

Ulta carries the Misunderstood palette and the villains kits. Coloupop has everything individually as well as some additional products, 2 shades of their Glitterally Obsessed body glitter gels and 6 shades of their Jelly Much Shadows.

Each Villain Kit has Creme Lux Lipstick, A Supershock Highlighter and an Ultra Glossy Lip all themed to the villain named in the kit. The finishes of the lipsticks and the lipglosses also vary from kit to kit.

The Misunderstood Palette has 15 shades and is a pressed powder shadow palette.

I only purchased 2 villain kits (Hades and Ursula) and the palette. I purchased them from Ulta.

Villains Kits:

The packaging on these are amazing I love the like neon bar sign style they went with and how every single thing in this collection is themed out and custom and fits the theme. They really went there with the packaging it is spot on. Even each compact is like custom to the villain and the lipstick and lip gloss tubes are so detailed. That said the color choices were awful I was pretty disappointed in the colors they chose for alot of the villains. I am only going to talk about the two I have but even these two I am not happy with I bought them more because they are my favorite villains in the collection and not for the colors.

Hades Collection Set

Cost: $25, you don’t save any money buying the kit versus buying individually

The packaging has my heart I love that they chose the Hydra and the colors of the packaging are so perfect for Hades and the whole color story of him and the underworld. I can’t say the same for the shades chosen.

“Everybody’s Got a Weakness”

I love the highlighter from the Hades set it it gives a very glowy natural wearable look. It is a nice champagne shade. Theses are the super shock formula so I find them easiest to apply with my fingers and really pack it on and then blend it our with a brush or a sponge. Also I love the name.

“Hades”

I was really hoping for like a grey toned lilac for Hades I feel like that would have been more appropriate then this very peachy nude. I really won’t wear this shade much it doesn’t look as bad on as I expected but still not what I would have envisioned this is also a creme finish. It is very comfortable to wear and wears decent I drank through a straw with this on and it didn’t all come off but this would definitely need reapplying through out the day.

The lipstick bullet details with emblems for all the villains is perfection though.

“Hot Headed”

The lipgloss shade is more firey so I can live with that but it is still a peachy nude which I would not have chosen for Hades. Either go full fire orange or go the more grey cool tones that he is drawn in. The lipglosses are not sticky so I can tolerate them for a short while but I am just not a lipgloss girl I don’t mark the kits down for that I was never going to like them that is personal preference on my part.

The lipstick swatch picks up on camera alot more coral/pink then it is in real life and I don’t know why. I am sorry about that. You can see how gorgeous the highlight is.

Ursula Collection Set

Cost: $25, you don’t save any money buying the kit versus buying individually

Ursula’s packaging has her tentacles and stormy waves very fitting.

“Poor Unfortunate Souls”

I love a colored highlight and a purple slightly glittery highlight feels very appropriate for the Sea Witch.

How fucking cute is the “Villains” stamped in to the lipstick?

“Ursula”

I love this color this is totally my kinda lip color a nice burgundy dark bloody red, but its Ursula! The seen where she puts on the bright orangey red lipstick in the movie is like so iconic and so her I was expecting that shade. They did alot of reds in this collection and none of them felt spot on to the characters for me personally. That said this is a matte formula in a color I love so this will get wear from me so I am happy about that at least. It wears off very patchy though so I would wipe this off before eating and drinking and then reapply.

“Sad But True

The lipgloss in this set is a clear iridescent gloss pretty and basic.

Misunderstood Palette

Cost: $22

Love the packaging so amazing I love all the blurred out and pixelated imaged from the movies and all the colors. Love all the Details they put on the inside and the holographic inside even though it makes it really hard to photograph. The shade names are also so so cute.

A+ packaging!

Formula I have some issues, lets get to the swatches first.

Lets start with the mattes they really really need to be built up to get them true to color which makes them a bit difficult to blend out I really really had to use alot of Tragic to help blend out The Fates (dark blue) in the look I did with that (See Below). I also found both 101 and The Fates to stain my eyes pretty bad. Now staining usually doesn’t bother me because it means theres alot of pigment and the shadows tend to last a really long time but these also faded alot during the day after like 3 or 4 hrs of just running errands not doing anything too intense they were looking alot worse for wear and pretty faded. Serious no no from eyeshadow for me.

The glitters are also super crumbly there is alot of fallout out and you have to pack them on really heavily on top of glitter glue to get the impact you expect from seeing them in the pan. Not the best performing in terms of shine or glitter but thats how I find most Colourpop shadows to be so I was not surprised.

So theses all in all are pretty hard to work with this is only a palette I would use when I have alot of time to play but also don’t need my makeup to look good for more then a few hours.

Looks:

I used The Fates and Pain and Panic to create a halo eye look. And the eye liner I use totally rub off with in minutes of blinking so don’t mind that. I am also wearing the Hades lipstick in this look. I liked the look but I could have gotten this same look cleaner and easier with other shadows.

I threw on a Sally headband from Nightmare Before Christmas because it was cute and matches and I did a simple eye look with the Flotsam, Forest of Thorns and 101. I am also wearing the Ursula lipstick here. I had a much better time creating this look these shadows preformed alot better these shades aren’t as far out on the extreme as the first look. This also lasted alot better on the eye but there was still fading.

Yay or Nay?

Nay for the palette unfortunately this will be more of a collectors item for me then a go to usable palette. At $22 it is just a bit much for just a collectors item.

For the kits its a maybe they are well themed and good quality nice packaging but the color selections are so off for me they don’t go with the characters.

I think you would be better off cherry picking some individual items so that you know you get shades that you will use and products you like.

This was such a win for aesthetics but a miss for performance for me. Still happy to have it though it fits in both my makeup and Disney collection really well.
