Medusa’s Makeup May 2017 Subscription Box Review

Medusa’s Makeup

Cost: $15.95 monthly

Cycle: Every Month

What is it: Every month Medusa’s Makeup sends 3-5 full size products, with a value of $40 from their line.  I have been subscribing since their inaugural bag. They have changed things up a bit from 3-5 products to 3-4 products each month.

Medusa’s Make up is a vegan and cruelty free company and made in the USA.

They usually send out their newest products and always full size.

Two of their newest products so I can’t complain at all this month.

Glitter in Pegasus

Full Size: 3 g

Full Size Cost: $8

Sample Size: 3 g

Value: $8

So I totally forgot to take a picture of this one, but it looks like all the other glitters we have received just a different color. We get their glitters frequently and I rarely use them I tend to pass them on unless they are truly unique. I really don’t use a ton of glitter. This too will get passed on Pegasus does not stick together as well as some of their other glitters have. It is swatched at the end though that I didn’t forget.

Lip Paint in Shag

Full Size: 0.34 oz

Full Size Cost: $12

Sample Size: 0.34 oz

Value: $12

These are truly permanent they are so hard to remove but the lip paint remover they sent does get it off. I don’t love this color but I do like the formula. This is a very 90s pink like barbie but not neon. Swatched below.

Lip Paint Remover

Full Size: 0.17 oz

Full Size Cost: $10

Sample Size: 0.17 oz

Value: $10

This does work to get their impossible to remove lip paints off. I love a good liquid lip remover so I am all about this but it is a tiny bottle for the price.

Totally Bake Eyeshadow in Bitchin’

Full Size: 2 g

Full Size Cost: $9

Sample Size: 2 g

Value: $9

I have been eyeing these baked shadows since they released them and am so super stoked to get one. They have that traditional scratchy feel that a baked shadow has but I can live with that since it is supposed to be that way. There is decent amount of fallout from this but it applies well and is a gorgeous cream and gold with shimmer this actually really reminds me of Urban Decay’s highlighter in Sin that I just got in my Ipsy bag.

Eyeshadow, Glitter, Lip paint.

Total: $39

I was happy enough with the value of the box this month. The seem to have raised the price of their glitters from $7 to $8 dollars and this card was printed before that price change is my guess leading to the higher value then stated on the card. I got the new eyeshadow and the lip paint removed which does make the box worth it for me this month every time I am ready to cancel they lure me back in with a decent box. I have a soft spot for them since they are vegan and cruelty free.

Medusa’s Makeup April 2017 Subscription Box Review and Coupon Code

Medusa’s Makeup

Cost: $15.95 monthly

Cycle: Every Month

What is it: Every month Medusa’s Makeup sends 3-5 full size products, with a value of $40 from their line.  I have been subscribing from their first month.  Every month the products arrive in a different colored bubble mailer.

Medusa’s Make up is a vegan and cruelty free company and made in the USA.

They usually send out their newest products and always full size.

We got some different packaging this month. We also received a coupon code and mini catalog.

If you want 15% off your purchase for the month of May you can use code PINK.

It is a cute colorful brochure detailing some of their products.

Now on to the goods for this month.

Eyeliner Sealer

Full Size: 0.67 oz

Full Size Cost: $8

Sample Size: 0.67 oz

Value: $8

This is Medusa’s Makeup version of a mixing media it is a liquid you can use with your pigments or really any powder product to foil it or turn it into a liquid eyeliner. It is really cool and something fun that I would never have bought on my ow but is really fun makeup item to play with.

Eye Dust in Helter Skelter

Full Size: 1.5 g

Full Size Cost: $7

Sample Size: 1.5 g

Value: $7

When I first saw this I thought it was a black pigment but it is actually more of a blue that is so dark that it looks back it is very pretty and dimensional especially when paired with the eyeliner sealer. I also love the name, that is one of my top 5 favorite Beatles songs. I was really hoping for one of their new pressed pigments. Swatched below.

Blush in Jezebel

Full Size: 10 g

Full Size Cost: $12

Sample Size: 10 g

Value: $12

Their compacts are super cute and well made with a nice big mirror, and that is where all the positives about this product end. I will say I hate blush I don’t use blush. This blush is not the same formula as the Dangerous Liaison blush we were sent back in December.

The one we received in December was soft and pigmented. This is stiff, scratchy and not very pigmented. Total fail. It is also just a weird baby pepto bismal pink color. Swatched below.

From left to right; Helter Skelter mixed with the eye liner sealer, Helter Skelter alone, Jezebel blush. As you can kinda see in the picture but can really see in person the mixing medium really brings out all the different blues and greens that are present in this pigment. The swatch with out is much more grey and smokey less bold and intense. The blush you can barely see and that is after quite a few passes with my finger and the fallout was crazy.

Eyeliner Brush

Full Size: 4 brush set

Full Size Cost: $18

Sample Size: 1 brush

Value: $4.50

I do believe the brushes when they first came out were sold individually and priced pretty high. They are now a set. I have gotten two brushes from them and both are not great and really not great for the prices they charge Wet and Wild brushes are 1/4 the price and have fantastic quality. these brushes fall apart after only a few washes they just are not constructed well. They are soft and aesthetically pleasing but what matters is the quality and that just isn’t there with these brushes.

Total: $31.50

The state value of this box is $36, they valued the brush at $9. That is half of what the set cost and the set has 4  brushes they are just trying to artificially inflate the value of the box since the total value has been on a decline the past three months. I can’t decide if this box was worth it for me this month or not I was not impressed.

Medusa’s Makeup March 2017 Subscription Box Review

Medusa’s Makeup

Last month really sucked in my opinion this month was definitely better. I may not cancel my subscription now.

Lipstick in Lydia

Full Size: 3.5 g

Full Size Cost: $12

Sample Size: 3.5 g

Value: $12

This month we got another one of the lipsticks this time in the shade Lydia. Which is a very interesting lilac shade. I like the uniqueness. They have really nice lipstick formulas they are moisturizing and opaque and not sticky but they are not particularly long wearing. Swatched below.

Eye Dust in Wasabe

Full Size: 1.5 g

Full Size Cost: $7

Sample Size: 1.5 g

Value: $7

This eye dust is a pretty shimmery green very mermaid vibe both in the eye dust and the lipstick though I do not know that I would wear them together. They do make very nice loose pigments I just am not into loose pigments so they don’t get a lot of use but I still enjoy having them in my collection.

Stick It! Eye Primer

Full Size: 2 g

Full Size Cost: $8

Sample Size: 2 g

Value: $8

This eye primer is weird. it is super oily and it changed the color of the eye dust when used underneath. You will see that in the swatches below. I just don’t know how I feel about this primer the oily texture never felt like it set to me and it is just weird.

Lip Paint in Get Lucky

Full Size: 1.5 g

Full Size Cost: $12

Sample Size: 1.5 g

Value: $12

We got a taste of one of Medusa’s newest products their liquid lipsticks. Liquid lipsticks are my favorite I love a lip product that can stay on through life. This is not the color I would have chose But I will see if I can make it work. I have not tried this yet but on my arm swatch it took almost 3 days of scrubbing to get it off so I have high hopes of this being super long lasting.

Here are the swatches the lipstick, the eye dust with out the primer, the eye dust with the primer, the lip paint. As you can see the primer really changes the way the eye dust looks. With out the primer Wasabe is a bright opaque green with subtle shimmer. With the primer Wasabe is much more shimmery but a light green almost sea foam green tone. I like it better with out the primer. I do not want a primer changing my eye shadow color that much for a regular look.

Total Value: $39

So we have a higher value this month and a total of 4 products this time around. I like that they gave out a new product. They now have pressed shadows so I am really really hoping we get one of those in April.
