Boxycharm June 2018 Subscription Box Review

Boxycharm

Cost: $21

Cycle: Every Month

What is it:

Boxycharm sends out 4 to 5 full size  items every month which makes it really unique among the  boxes I subscribe to.  It is a nice change to get all full size products especially for the reasonable price of $21 which is usually less then the cost of one item in the box.

If you would like to subscribe you can use my referral link HERE. I don’t get anything other then points but would really appreciate it but do as you feel comfortable you are also welcome to use the link in the header that leads to the regular homepage.

You can also review your products and get “charms” which are their versions of points that you can use as money off in their shop.

I was so excited for this month’s box because of the spoilers. Even though there were three products I knew I was not at all interested in the palette this month is just launched and looked so pretty I was so excited to be getting it that I didn’t even care.

This is really a summoning a makeup demon esque type picture here I am now noticing. I could not get stuff to stay in place and not roll around. It has been a seriously busy month I have not had a day off of work all month so I am just too tired to fuss with anything.

Luxie 3 Piece Face Set Brush Set

Full Size: Yes

Full Size Cost: $38

I Luxie brushes they are my favorite so always happy to have more. As usual they are so soft. I was very annoyed to see that Boxycharm is saying that this $42 when it sells, not on sale, for $38 on the Luxie site I don’t like when boxes try to claim a higher value then there actually is.

Battington Lashes in Monroe

Full Size: Yes

Full Size Cost: $28

Me being a total sucker for packaging the box is awesome with its magnetic closure and pretty gold patterns on white background. These are also some long big lashes I have never worn false lashes so these will probably get gifted to a new home.

Ofra Liquid Lipstick in Verona

Full Size: Yes

Full Size Cost: $20

This is a very brown lip that is not for me. I also don’t love Ofra liquid lipsticks I find them to be dry and flaky while also sliding around a little so they are not the best formula in my opinion. Swatched Below.

Jonteblu Eyeliner in Charcoal

Full Size: Yes

Full Size Cost: $5

I have never in my whole like wanted a charcoal eyeliner it just looks like you’re eyeliner has worn away I don’t get the point. These eyeliners are also kinda pointy and hard. Pass. Swatched Below.

Liquid Lipstick in Verona, Eyeliner in Charcoal.

You can see how brown the lipstick is and how grey and worn the eyeliner looks.

Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream

Full Size: 240 ml

Full Size Cost: $45

Sample Size: 25 ml

Value: $4.69

This is not a full size it is not even a travel size it is 1/3 of the size of the travel size. It is just a deluxe sample essentially ad worth way less then what Boxycharm claims all of that annoys me alot since Boxycharm is supposed to send full size items and that is 2 items in this box that has the wrong listed price.

That being said I was excited to try this since it is raved about in the beauty community especially in regards to the scent. This is a really nice body butter and it smells ok but I don’t find it to die for like so many people do it is just like a light sweet scent. It is a nice body butter It sinks in and makes my skin look hydrated and glowy and plump with out being sticky but not something I would buy having finally tried it it is way to pricey for just ok.

Alamar Reina del  Caribe Palette

Full Size: Yes

Full Size Cost: $28

This palette I saw Kathleenlights review it right around when I saw the spoiler for it being in the box and was so thrilled to be getting it. I really really like the packaging and the size and the fact that it can do a neutral look or a fun look and you can get variety even though there is only 8 shades. This is a perfect travel palette. The shimmer shades are so gorgeously thick and foiled feeling the mattes are pretty smooth with the exception of Coco-Taxi which I found to be patchy it really needed to be built up and worked with nothing to overly difficult or terrible just not consistent with the rest of the palette enough that I felt it needed to be pointed out.

Like look at those gorgeous swatches the shimmers especially. Third from the top you can see that Coco-Taxi is just not quite as nice as the other shades.

Total: $123.69

All I wanted were the brushes, the palette and the lotion so I am pretty satisfied with this box. I actually got an identical Bum Bum Cream in my Sephora box so there is clearly a marketing push going out to boxes from Sol de Janiero. The box was a score for me the 3 items I didn’t want will make great gifts and the palette is worth more then the box. Not that I need more brushes, lotion or palettes. I am litereally over my storage capacity for all of those items oops.

Boxycharm May 2018 Subscription Box Review

Another month another Boxycharm box that came all crushed I really don’t get what is up with that. Luckily nothing was damaged this month but since none of my other boxes are damaged when I get them I feel like this is on Boxycharm’s end not the post office’s end.

Aesthetica P 12 Brush

Full Size: Yes

Full Size Cost: $27

I would never spend $27 on this brush it does not feel that quality it isn’t super scratchy but there is an element of scratchiness to the bristles and it just has the look and feel of a much cheaper brush. I also don’t love brushes shaped like this I need something bigger ad fluffier or smaller and denser for my powder life.

Aesthetica 3 Piece Eye Trio

Full Size: Yes

Full Size Cost: $45

Uh that is ridiculous especially since one of the brushes is a tiny spoolie. These feel better quality then the P12 but no where near $45 you can get the same thing from like bh cosmetics for less then half the price that is the same quality.

Pür Cosmetics Sculptor Palette

Full Size: 1o g

Full Size Cost: $30

Sample Size: 10 g

Value: $30

This is a much better then the eye palette that is for sure the highlight shades are a bit dark for me but that will be good for people generally left out with shades that don’t work for them. Swatched Below.

Pretty Vulgar The Ink Gel Eyeliner 01 Black List

Full Size: 6 g

Full Size Cost: $24

Sample Size: 6 g

Value: $24

I just love the packaging aesthetic so much the old school inkwell is just so awesome. I wish the quality of the packaging was better for the price ad the look of it like the lid is so cheap feeling if should have been a heavier metal cap.  The jar itself is heavy glass. Since you can’t see into the liner it is really easy to overload your brush because this is a very creamy gel liner. It stays a bit glossy but does look really nice. I swatched it twice a first past and a second past so that you can see how the pigment is over a first and second swipe. Swatched Below.

Beauty Creations Matte Lip Gloss in 17 Sweet Heart

Full Size: 4 g

Full Size Cost: $10

Sample Size: 4 g

Value: $10

I feel like they sell this at Marshall’s. This is a really pretty color but it takes forever to dry down and is pretty sticky while it dries. The packaging is also pretty cheap feeling like there are sharp edges on the plastic cap. I don’t get matte lip gloss like those are pretty mutually exclusive so I don’t get while brands name things like that. Swatched Below.

Cover Fx Blurring Primer

Full Size: 30 ml

Full Size Cost: $38

Sample Size: 30 ml

Value: $38

This is a beige primer that is really blurring like my skin looks really smooth and soft after putting this on.

Total: $174

So much repeat brands like I feel like we have gotten Cover Fx and Pür in every box lately. The spoilers for next month look really good so I am excited to see what we get. It looks like we will be getting some different brands then usual. Almost a third of the value of this month came from the really overpriced brushes that are not worth it they are not something I would spend my money on.

Boxycharm April 2018 Subscription Box Review

Boxycharm

Cost: $21

Cycle: Every Month

What is it:

Boxycharm sends out 4 to 5 full size  items every month which makes it really unique among the  boxes I subscribe to.  It is a nice change to get all full size products especially for the reasonable price of $21 which is usually less then the cost of one item in the box.

Once again I always seem to get the box variation I want the least. They sent out 5 Colourpop palettes this month one I had and one I really didn’t want so of course I got the one I didn’t want instead of one of the three I really wanted.

Dr. Brandt Pores No More Vacuum Cleaner

Full Size: 30 g

Full Size Cost: $42

Sample Size: 30 g

Value: $42

So the card list this as $47 and it is not $42 supposedly the price change happened after these cards were printed but just a heads up. This isn’t my most favorite mask I have ever tried frankly this is really weird but it is my most favorite thing in the box. Thank god because it is also the most expensive.  so this had little blue and white beads in it that you have to rub and break up on your face which I do not like the process of that I feel like I can’t get an even layer on my face. This has a lightly cooling sensation but nothing terrible I hate cold face masks. I don’t think this cleaned out my pores but I feel like that is something I would only see after repeated uses. This did make my skin feel softer and my pores look smaller. My only gripe with Dr. Brandt is that you always need a ton of their product so I tend to go through it really fast and this is too expensive for all that.

Adesse New York Hi Definition Liquid Lipstick in Haute Cocoa?

Full Size: 6.5 g

Full Size Cost: $24

Sample Size: 6.5 g

Value: $24

So I think this is Haute Cocoa but I don’t know because it isn’t listed any where not on the tube or the box or the card. This is not a matte lipstick this is a full on melted cream gloss lipstick. It is god awfully sticky. I hate this and find it really sketchy that the name isn’t on the tube. Swatched Below.

Tarte Tarteist Pro Glow Liquid Highlighter in Sparkler

Full Size: 15.9 g

Full Size Cost: $29

Sample Size: 15.9 g

Value: $29

Now I love me a cream or liquid highlighter but this is so full of glitter by the end of the day it was just a mess of glitter on my cheeks not a good look. This is a pretty color I can see this being really fun in the summer when I want to be more glittery but this is more a special look highlighter and for $29 dollars and its huge I would have rather this be smaller and cheaper. Swatched below.

The Browgal The Instatint Tinted Brow Gel with Microfibers in Brown Hair 02

Full Size: 3.2 g

Full Size Cost: $22

Sample Size: 3.2 g

Value: $22

This has me so nervous to try my brows are already full and this is really light I think it will look really weird. I don’t do much to my brows in the first place so this is not up my alley. Swatched Below.

Lipstick, highlighter, brow tint. I tried sheering out the highlighter like you would wear it on your face but it is a little hard to see in the picture the arrow is trying to point it out.

Colourpop Golden State of Mind Palette

Full Size: 15 x 1 g (15 g)

Full Size Cost: $20

Sample Size: 15 x 1 g (15 g)

Value: $20

This was $26 originally like the card says but it has been $20 for months not because it was a limited edition thing and now they need to get rid of it so it is $20 dollars. This is the one that was supposed to be Sephora exclusive and what not but it clearly wasn’t. This is all shimmers and I’m pretty salty I really wanted the Elements of Surprise or the My Little Pony one. These are really chunky and pretty inconsistent in opacity. I can make them work in a very specific way which is fine because it is the way I like to do my oh shit I have legit 45 second to do my makeup but that is the only use I have for this palette. I will pick a color tap it on really quick onto the lid with my finger pick a darker shade and quickly tap blend it out on the edge of my eye and slightly into the crease and call it done.  Since these are creamy and finger blendable I can get a a decent soft pretty look really quick but there is glitter fall out on the more glittery shades this just isn’t my favorite.

Total: $137

Update I am LOVING the mascara from last month so good. I said it last month and I’ll say it again it is a lot of cast off like things that companies are trying to get rid of rather then the new and best things. or skimping on quality items to make a cool collaboration with Boxycharm. The value is still there but the excitement and joy almost isn’t. And the way the boxes have been packed lately is abysmal like just thrown in the padding isn’t always wrapped around the products right like it’s really taken a downhill turn in quality. I’ll continue to buy them and recommend them because I always at least get my moneys worth but I don’t like how much things I’m getting that end up in a give away pile.
