Boxycharm May 2017 Subscription Box Review

Boxycharm

Cost: $21

Cycle: Every Month

What is it:

Boxycharm sends out 4 to 5 full size  items every month which makes it really unique among the  boxes I subscribe to.  It is a nice change to get all full size products especially for the reasonable price of $21 which is usually less then the cost of one item in the box.

If you would like to subscribe you can use my referral link HERE. I don’t get anything other then points but would really appreciate it but do as you feel comfortable you can also use the link in the header.

You can also review your products and get “charms” which are their versions of points that you can use as money off in their shop.

Was not super impressed with the box this month but let’s get into it.

The BrowGal by Tonya Crooks Convertible Brow in CB.02 Brown Hair

Full Size: 5.5 g

Full Size Cost: $35

Sample Size: 5.5 g

Value: $35

This can be used wet or dry. When used wet is turns into a pomade. I don’t know that the colors are quite right for me a little too cool toned.  But it is a cool concept. The powders feel really nice and have the perfect amount of buildable pigmentation that you want in a brow product. I don’t really do much to my brows so I will be passing this on. Swatched Below.

The BrowGal by Tonya Crooks Brow Brush

Full Size: Yes

Full Size Cost: $14

$14 seems a little high for this brush but it is a nice angle brush with a nice spoolie.  The ferule is a little sharp on the brush side though. I think this will actually be really nice for winged eyeliner as well.

Temptu x Boxycharm Liquid Glow

Full Size: 30 ml

Full Size Cost: $24

Sample Size: 30 ml

Value: $24

Boxycharm stated this as $29.50 but Temptu has this on their website for $24. Either way this is a gorgeous glowy highlight it’ll look great mixed into foundation as well and should last forever a little goes a long long way.Swatched Below

IBY Beauty Highlight & Contour Palette

Full Size: 15.36 g

Full Size Cost: $40

Sample Size: 15.36 g

Value: $20

So this is listed as $40 but I frequently (as in every time I go there) see this in TJ Maxx or Marshalls for like $15-$20 so I am generously giving this $20 I’m pretty sure I have also see this once or twice at Five Below for $5 so I am not valuing this at $40. Also the quality is not there for $40 this really has to be built up and the pigmentation is just not that great the powders are super smooth but for me this is just way to light and way too much work for me to want to use. Swatched below.

Highlighter and Brow Powder

Contour and Highlight Palette

Crown Brushes x Boxycharm Round Contour Brush

Full Size: Yes

Full Size Cost: $24.99

I like that this comes with a nice cover. And I may actually reserve this as a travel foundation brush. This brush seems a little cheap to me the I am assuming that is because it is a collab with Boxycharm. This is not as dense as a paddle brush should be and the hairs are cut unevenly and splaying all over the place but I am sure a quick trim will fix that up enough for use. The handle is nice and flexible and sturdy so that is good.  Despite all that it did apply foundation fairly nicely but not as nice as other paddle brushes I have used.

Total: $117.99

Despite some of the values being incorrect this is still a fantastic value. While this box was not my cup of tea and felt really cheap and thrown together to me I’m sure this did appeal to a lot of beginner makeup users.  Those of us will large makeup collections this added very little new or uniqueness. I was not feeling it this month.

Medusa’s Makeup May 2017 Subscription Box Review

Medusa’s Makeup

Cost: $15.95 monthly

Cycle: Every Month

What is it: Every month Medusa’s Makeup sends 3-5 full size products, with a value of $40 from their line.  I have been subscribing since their inaugural bag. They have changed things up a bit from 3-5 products to 3-4 products each month.

Medusa’s Make up is a vegan and cruelty free company and made in the USA.

They usually send out their newest products and always full size.

Two of their newest products so I can’t complain at all this month.

Glitter in Pegasus

Full Size: 3 g

Full Size Cost: $8

Sample Size: 3 g

Value: $8

So I totally forgot to take a picture of this one, but it looks like all the other glitters we have received just a different color. We get their glitters frequently and I rarely use them I tend to pass them on unless they are truly unique. I really don’t use a ton of glitter. This too will get passed on Pegasus does not stick together as well as some of their other glitters have. It is swatched at the end though that I didn’t forget.

Lip Paint in Shag

Full Size: 0.34 oz

Full Size Cost: $12

Sample Size: 0.34 oz

Value: $12

These are truly permanent they are so hard to remove but the lip paint remover they sent does get it off. I don’t love this color but I do like the formula. This is a very 90s pink like barbie but not neon. Swatched below.

Lip Paint Remover

Full Size: 0.17 oz

Full Size Cost: $10

Sample Size: 0.17 oz

Value: $10

This does work to get their impossible to remove lip paints off. I love a good liquid lip remover so I am all about this but it is a tiny bottle for the price.

Totally Bake Eyeshadow in Bitchin’

Full Size: 2 g

Full Size Cost: $9

Sample Size: 2 g

Value: $9

I have been eyeing these baked shadows since they released them and am so super stoked to get one. They have that traditional scratchy feel that a baked shadow has but I can live with that since it is supposed to be that way. There is decent amount of fallout from this but it applies well and is a gorgeous cream and gold with shimmer this actually really reminds me of Urban Decay’s highlighter in Sin that I just got in my Ipsy bag.

Eyeshadow, Glitter, Lip paint.

Total: $39

I was happy enough with the value of the box this month. The seem to have raised the price of their glitters from $7 to $8 dollars and this card was printed before that price change is my guess leading to the higher value then stated on the card. I got the new eyeshadow and the lip paint removed which does make the box worth it for me this month every time I am ready to cancel they lure me back in with a decent box. I have a soft spot for them since they are vegan and cruelty free.

I was so excited when I saw my spoilers. I love the Luxie brushes and have wanted one of the periwinkle ones and I have been dying to try the Caked Lip Fondant.

I wasn’t really feeling the bag this month I actually hate ice cream but the bag is still cute but very childish feeling.

Pūr~lisse BB Tinted Moist Cream in Medium

Full Size: 40 ml

Full Size Cost: $35

Sample Size: 10 ml

Value: $8.75

I unfortunately can’t try this until winter because it is too light for me right now the shade range on this really sucks there are only three shades light, medium and deep. This is too light and a little orange so I don’t know how well this will work out for me. It has spf 30 which is great. Swatched below.

Caked Lip Fondant in Low Key

Full Size: 7 ml

Full Size Cost: $16

Sample Size: 7 ml

Value: $16

Gotta love getting a full size liquid lipstick. I am all about this product right here the packaging is adorable and all donut themed and it smells like a real yummy vanilla icing. Low Key is a beautiful berry shade and it is really comfortable to wear and decently transferproof. All key things I care about in my liquid lipsticks. I was able to eat with this on with minimal wear off and it layered well for touch ups and isn’t extremely drying. These are great every one should check them out they are very similar to the Lime Crime Velvetines. Swatched below.

Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Highlighter in Sin

Full Size: 0.23 oz

Full Size Cost: $26

Sample Size: 0.08 oz

Value: $9.04

On my face this looked not that great it sat funny and really emphasized texture o my face but it made for a gorgeous shimmery eye shadow. I really like the champagne/gold shimmer of this shade. Swatched below.

Highlighter, Liquid Lipstick, BB cream.

Luxie 660 Precision Foundation Brush

Full Size: Yes

Full Size Cost: $23

Sample Size: Full Size

Value: $23

These brushes are so soft and I love the periwinkle of the Dreamcatcher collection. This is a foundation brush and Luxie says it can be used with liquid or powder foundation I have never tried to use a fluffy brush with liquid foundation I am going to have to test that out now. This is also great for a really subtle highlight as it blends out the highlight quickly and well.

Beauty & Pin-ups Fearless Hair Rescue Masque

Full Size: 30 ml

Full Size Cost: $10

Sample Size: 30 ml

Value: $10

I am excited to try this it should be good for at least 2 or 3 uses. I always love a good damage repairing hair masque. The packaging and the name are completely different from this product to what is shown on the website. The website names and packaging are very cute. I am guessing they have updated their packaging since they provided these products to Ipsy.

This is a great value for Ipsy this month. An I love the lipstick and the brush, on their own are both worth more then the bag so Ipsy is pretty much always a great deal. I am really really pleased with this months bag, Ipsy really is one of my favorite subscriptions.
