Boxycharm January 2019 Subscription Box Review

Boxycharm

Cost: $21

Cycle: Every Month

What is it:

Boxycharm sends out 4 to 5 full size  items every month which makes it really unique among the  boxes I subscribe to.  It is a nice change to get all full size products especially for the reasonable price of $21 which is usually less then the cost of one item in the box.

If you would like to subscribe you can use my referral link HERE. I don’t get anything other then points but would really appreciate it but do as you feel comfortable you are also welcome to use the link in the header that leads to the regular homepage.

You can also review your products and get “charms” which are their versions of points that you can use as money off in their shop.

Not happy at all with this months box. Mostly a collection of stuff I don’t want.

Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mask

Full Size: 1 Mask

Full Size Cost: $12

Sample Size: 2 masks

Value: $24

This is probably the most exciting thing in box. I have never gotten anything from Tatcha before because it is such a pricey brand. I like that we got too masks as well because you can see if they really do anything as well as it is nice to have a bonus 6th item.

Briogeo Don’t Despair Repair! Leave in Mask

Full Size: 4 oz

Full Size Cost: $28

Sample Size: 2 oz

Value: $14

This bothers me on two levels one I hate when Boxycharm doesn’t send full size products because they really imply that they always will. Two because Briogeo does not work for my hair at all so this is a waste of product for me that I will end up giving away.

Starlooks Ultra-Luxe Longwear Eye Pencil in Brown

Full Size: Yes

Full Size Cost: $19

I am not opening this or swatching it because I don’t use brown eyeliner so there is no reason to. I don’t like Starlooks that much I think they are kinda pricey and feel a little cheap. But I have only really tried eyeliners from them.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Volume III

Full Size: 1.5 g x 8

Full Size Cost: $36

While I love the packaging on these palettes the colors inside are just so boring to me. I don’t really use these light neutral kinda of eyeshadow colors ever. So this is another one that will make a great gift so I am not swatching it.

Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Havana Nights

Full Size: 8 g

Full Size Cost: $20

I love the new Ofra packaging it is so nice and sleek and looks so much better and less flimsy then their old packaging. This is a nice dark red color this is the collab with KathleenLights that Ofra did awhile back so of course this is the shade that Boxycharm would put in since shes basically the face of Boxycharm lately. It is a really pretty shade though and I don’t think I have this one so I am happy to have it since I like the color and formula of their liquid lipsticks.

This was a fail box for me unfortunately. I know it happens sometimes but it is annoying when it does with a more expensive box and it was two in a row of boxes that didn’t thrill me. I hope this is not a trend.

Macy’s Beauty Box January 2019 Subscription Box Review

Macy’s Beauty Box

Cost: $15

Cycle: Every Month

What is it: So Macy’s has hopped on the subscription box bandwagon and this is their first box. Every month you will get a bag, a $5 off coupon (sometimes $10), 5 deluxe samples and 1 bonus sample. Why not just say 6? I don’t get it.

All the brands will be brands you can find in Macy’s which is cool they sell Mac and a lot of other brands that are never to rarely in subscription boxes.

The cool thing about the coupon is that it is good in stores and online (beauty ships free at Macy’s) also Macy’s does have sales and $5 products so if you are strategic you can score a free product every month. Depending on your state you may still have to pay tax but it is still basically free.

What the hell is with this weird clear puffball makeup bag this does not seem appropriate for the demographic of this box….This box tends to be hard core on the expensive skincare that leans slightly older and this bag is straight up preteen. So weird.

Tony Moly I’m Lemon Brightening Gel Eye Patch

Full Size: 1 pair

Full Size Cost: $4

Sample Size: 1 pair

Value: $4

I am trying to get better about using these more often and not just for like special occasions. I think my eyes would really benefit from more moisture more often. so I am always happy to get more because these things cost alot for one use.

Clinique Moisture Surge 72 Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator

Full Size: 50 ml

Full Size Cost: $39.00

Sample Size: 7 ml

Value: $5.46

I don’t really love this moisturizer it is light but heavy at the same time. My skin just isn’t dry enough for me to use this comfortably on my face most times. But I do really like it as a hand lotion when my hands are dry. I know that is a pricey way to moisturize but I have so much lotion that I don’t really care that much ad it helps out my hands alot and I mean they are part of my skin too.

Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Age Defying Exfoliator

Full Size: 57 g

Full Size Cost: $79

Sample Size: 7.5 g

Value: $10.39

This is an ok exfoliator but it is no where near worth the price they charge for it. I think everything I have tried from Dr. Brandt is just so overpriced for what it is you can find much cheaper better options. the Derma-e Microdermabrasion scrub is half the price and ten times better.

Kiehl’s Glow Formula Skin Hydrator

Full Size: 50 ml

Full Size Cost: $38

Sample Size: 5 ml

Value: $3.80

This has that same lemon pound cake type scent that the Glamglow Glowstarters have that I love so much. This leaves a nice glowy look but it definitely is not a moisturizer this is more primer/no makeup makeup.

Philosophy Anti-Wrinkle Miracle Worker Primer

Full Size: 26 ml

Full Size Cost: $38

Sample Size: 7 ml

Value: $10.23

I don’t see hoe this is going to do anything. And I tend to not get on well with Philosophy skin products.

Marc Jacobs Daisy Perfume

Full Size: 50 ml

Full Size Cost: $84

Sample Size: 1.2 ml

Value: $2.02

Too floral for my tastes.

This box was kinda boring all skin care pretty much nothing really exciting. The best thing in the box was the eye patches.

Ipsy January 2019 Subscription Box Review

Ipsy Bag

Cost: $10 monthly, $110 annual

Cycle: Every Month

What is it: Every month Ipsy sends out a cute makeup bag of samples and full size items. You can review your bag for points that you can trade in for reward items. The rewards change often and the range between 300 points and 1000 points. You can get around 95 points every month.

If you want to subscribe you can subscribe HERE and skip the waitlist. That is my referral link so I do get points to spend but I’m not an affiliate I don’t make any money or anything it’s just one beauty junkie to another.

So Ipsy has switched this up a bit it seems we got a like pamphlet with information about all the products in the bag which is a new added touch. I like it much better then the usual throw away waste of paper card they would normally stick in.

This month’s bag is a linen/seersucker blue striped bag with a coral trim it is really cute but very spring/summer not very fit for this time of year it is an odd choice.

SL Miss Glam SB68 Eye Brush

Full Size: 6 Brush Set

Full Size Cost: $39

Sample Size: 1 Brush

Value: $6.50

Ipsy claims that this is an SB brush but it definitely is not. This is from the SS Silver Glitter Eye Set so I linked to that. The SB set has a different color handle and brush hairs. Anyway this is a really pretty brush I love the clear glittered filled handle. I like the other SL Miss Glam brushes I have tried so happy to have this one.

Illamasqua Colouring Pencil Lip Crayon in Lust

Full Size: 1.4 g

Full Size Cost: $17.41

Sample Size: 1.4 g

Value: $17.41

I am always so keen to to try Illamasqua but buying them seems so inaccessible because they are kinda pricey and only can buy them online. I don’t really use lip liners but this is a pretty color that fits well in my lip collection. This is a very soft formula so I don’t know that this will do alot to help keep lipstick from bleeding or to make it last.

Pretty Berry Pink Color

VDL Lumilayer Primer

Full Size: 30 ml

Full Size Cost: $18.36

Sample Size: 5 ml

Value: $3.06

This is supposed to be glowy, blurring and keep oil at bay. That seems like alot of promises to live up to me. I have so many freaking primers and they take so long to get through that I will probably save this for awhile. This is a Korean product so the price fluctuates like crazy.

Yensa Pumpkin Turmeric 2 in 1 Radiance Polishing Mask

Full Size: 15 ml

Full Size Cost: $20

Sample Size: 15 ml

Value: $20

I love masks and I love interesting ones like this so I am excited that I got a full travel size. It is supposed to have 8 orange colored ingredients so I hope this doesn’t turn my face orange.

Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Replenishing Moisture CC Cream

Full Size: 100 ml

Full Size Cost:$29

Sample Size: 25 ml

Value: $7.25

I like the way Alterna haircare smells but it never works that well for my hair it is very very heavy and weighs my hair down making it look kinda limp and greasy.

This is a weird bad it is alot of stuff I don’t need but all stuff that is really cool that I’m interested in. Minus the brush I always want and use those.
