Sephora Play! February 2018 Subscription Box Review

Sephora Play!

Cost: $10.00 monthly + tax

Cycle: Every Month

What is it: Every month our favorite money sucking store Sephora sends out a curated box of higher end samples to try out.  Every month you receive 5 samples and a perfume sample.  The boxes are customized with a few different variations being sent out each month.

There is a small survey that Sephora has you take that helps Sephora curate a box to your needs. There is also a card included in the box for a complimentary mini makeover (which are complimentary any way so I don’t really get that) and 50 extra points if you purchase something in store.

Makeup and skincare this month that is what I expect from Sephora.

The bag this month I find really creepy. It reminds me of like a retro doll you’d see in an antique shop and I just kind it creepy.

First Aid Beauty Ginger & Turmeric Vitamin C Jelly Mask

Full Size: 4 oz

Full Size Cost: $32

Sample Size: 0.75 oz

Value: $6

This was a really interesting mask like it so completely sunk into my skin that I really didn’t need to wash it off. It definitely smells like ginger and turmeric which isn’t my preference for scents that is for sure. It didn’t really do that much it was slightly brightening but really nothing to write home about.

Peter Thomas Roth Firmx Peeling Gel

Full Size: 100 ml

Full Size Cost: $28.49

Sample Size: 15 ml

Value: $4.27

Another nice skincare item I always want to try more Peter Thomas Roth products but they are so pricey. This is one of those ones that is supposed to ball off your dead skin cells. I think it worked better then others of this type I have tried. my skin did look and feel a little smoother but not as much as I would expect I wanted it to do more.

Sephora Gel Gloss in 04 Perfect Nude

Full Size: 0.11 oz

Full Size Cost: $12

Sample Size: 0.1 oz

Value: $10.91

Why is there no picture of this I have no idea. Sorry. I also am not swatching this it is totally sealed and I don’t use gloss so why spoil it for the person I’ll pass this on to. But this product really pisses me off because I got it in fucking November same shade too. And 2 Novembers ago I got it in pink so like what the fuck really send something else.

Tory Burch Love Relentlessly Perfume

Full Size: 100 ml

Full Size Cost: $118

Sample Size: 1.5 ml

Value: $1.77

I love this perfume maybe I’ll have to buy it one day. It is super girly not feminine i know that is an odd description but its how I feel.

Lancôme Drama Liqui-Pencil in Côte D’Azur

Full Size: 1.2 g

Full Size Cost: $23

Sample Size: 0.5 g

Value: $9.58

I love that we got a liner that isn’t black this brighter blue is so fun. I have wanted to try these eyeliners they seem really cool. This went on very smooth and didn’t smudge which I like. I was expecting more impact then the color provide but I am not dissatisfied. Swatched Below.

Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick in M500

Full Size: 3.5 g

Full Size Cost: $22

Sample Size: 1.4 g

Value: $8.80

This is a nice deep wine red color. It is a matte but not a super matte almost like a satin matte. I realy like it this is right up my color alley so I’ll finally get some use of out a Make Up For Ever product that I got sent. Swatched Below.

I like that there was a good mix of skincare and makeup. I really liked the new skincare that I get to try so I’m satisfied with this month. I am really annoyed about the repeat lip product that seems really lazy and cost cutting on Sephora’s part and I do not find that acceptable.

Sephora Play! January 2018 Subscription Box Review

Sephora Play!

Cost: $10.00 monthly + tax

And another meh box from Sephora I don’t know how but they always seem to send me the box I want least from all the options I don’t get it.

Make Up For Ever Artist Face Color in B302

Full Size: 5 g

Full Size Cost: $23

Sample Size: 1.3 g

Value: $5.98

This is a satin finish peach blush if you’re a blush person you’d probably like this blush it is really smooth and light in color so you can build it up. There is not place for this in my life. I can’t even use it as an eyeshadow it is just two light of a color. Swatched Below.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Gloss in Kristen

Full Size: 4.5 g

Full Size Cost: $16

Sample Size: 2 g

Value: $7.11

This is a really pretty color I wish it wasn’t a gloss. I can’t do the stickyness on my lips just no. This has the oddest paddle shaped doe foot applicator that I’d be curios to try out. I think I have to see if they have this shade in a liquid lip or lipstick that I could do. It is a nice mauve nude shade. Swatched Below.

Gloss Moderne Clean Luxury Masque

Full Size: 120 ml

Full Size Cost: $65

Sample Size: 7 ml

Value: $3.79

This product is like a serious WTF why are you so expensive product. My first gripe is they sell travel packets that are 9 ml so why is the sample pack 7 ml like don’t be so damn cheap gives us a full travel pack they both are foil packets just the same. I am sure it costs the company more to produce this alternate size for samples then for just making extras of the ones they are already selling.  Also this did nothing for my hair. I was so excited at first because it does smell awesome it smells like sweet luxurious coconut and felt really nice on my hair.  Then it did nothing for my hair no shine, no added softness, not frizz reduction nothing.

Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream

Full Size: 15 ml

Full Size Cost: $26.50

Sample Size: 3 ml

Value: $5.30

I like the price of this eye cream that seems fair to me for an eye cream. I don’t love the applicator it feels to big and awkward under my eye so I use my fingers. It is a little sticky under the eye but does feel like a nice eye cream for the one time i used it definitely a good morning cream it sinks in fast. I’m cool with the tiny sample because I tend not to like the pep-start line this is also perfect size to finish up in like one vacation so after that vacation I’ll have a good feel if I like this or not. So check in next months empties for a more in depth review.

Glamglow Supercleanse Clearing Cream to Foam Cleanser

Full Size: 150 g

Full Size Cost: $32

Sample Size: 15 g

Value: $3.20

So I saved the two products I am excited about for last. I have wanted to try this cleanser but it is a ridiculous price for a cleanser. I like cream to foam cleansers so as soon as I finish up the one I’ve been diligently working on for like a year now.

Boscia Exfoliating Peel Gel

Full Size: 150 ml

Full Size Cost: $34

Sample Size: 30 ml

Value: $6.80

This is one of those chemical peel things that like balls up all the dead skin on your face. This was a little more gentle then I wanted but that is ok. I have really oily skin and it can get really grubby and dull sometimes (Yes gross and terrible I know).  I wanted a little more exfoliating out of this but it is a great gentle chemical exfoliator I am a fan but I don’t think I will buy it.

So two things I really like one that I’m content with and 3 that just are not for me. Once again this month seems a little lackluster. Nothing was like wowing me, even a bigger size of one of the products would have made this a better box even if it was a product I didn’t like.

I really like the art deco Great Gatsby style of the bag. But the satin feels cheap this month usually it feels very soft and nice this month not so much.

Drybar Triple Sec

Full Size: 118 g

Full Size Cost: $26

Sample Size: 10 g

Value: $2.20

I love Drybar products they smell so so good and my hair just loves them. I have a few little cans of this and it really does add texture to my hair when it is being limp and blah. Bonus makes you’re hair smell and look clean a little like dry shampoo would.

Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Cream in C207

Full Size: 3.5 g

Full Size Cost: $22

Sample Size: 1.4 g

Value: $8.80

Why do I keep getting pink lipsticks? Anyway if you like bold cream lipsticks this is for you the formula is creamy and opaque and applies with no patchiness at all but it is Barbie pink and bright. Swatched Below.

Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Stick in Au Natural

Full Size: 1.64 g

Full Size Cost: $29

Sample Size: 1 g

Value: $17.68

I love the caviar sticks they are so quick and easy when you just want one color so you don’t look dead on the way out the door lol. This is a nude color very similar to my skin tone. Being slightly tacky I think it will make a good base for eye shadow. Swatched Below.

Clinique Pretty Easy Liquid Eyelining Pen in Black

Full Size: 0.07 oz

Full Size Cost: $21

Sample Size: 0.01 oz

Value: $3

This was pretty terrible. It isn’t super black and and it smudges and fades immediately I do not recommend this at all. Swatched Below.

Caudalíe Vine[activ] Energizing and Smoothing Eye Cream

Full Size: 15 ml

Full Size Cost: $39

Sample Size: 5 ml

Value: $13

I love little eye creams they last forever and then I never have to buy them. I never see a huge difference between eye creams though only small differences. Caudalíe is such an expensive brand that it is cool to get to try it.

Stella Perfume

Full Size: 50 ml

Full Size Cost: $72

Sample Size: 1.5 ml

Value: $2.16

I don’t do roses so this is a no go for me I passed this off to my mom and she enjoyed it pretty good. So it has the mom stamp of approval.

This month was a little thrown together for me but overall I am happy I got an eyeshadow, eye serum and hair product that I love and then 3 things that don’t work for me I just wish it had been a little more adventurous and interesting.
