30 Beauty Questions Tag

Well my house has never been cleaner and I am running out of things to do here in Self-Isolation. Hope every one out there is staying safe and at home and washing their hands. I downloaded Tik Tok so like that’s where I am on on my Social Distancing journey. So I am taking a break from that time suck to do a beauty tag that I found on Anna’s blog The Beauty Section.

Grab a snack (if there are any left I know I ate all mine) or a nice drink (since its always happy hour in quarantine) this is a real long post.

1// Do you remember your first makeup item?

Uh not like totally because I’m sure my mom must have given me glosses to wear and play with and what not when I was little. I remember the first items I bought for myself thought when I was like 13ish. I had a black liquid liner like marker style, a black pencil liner and then a little old school Urban Decay palette the purple one with the butterflies on it.

I would do the heavy black rings around my eyes every day, #emokidforlife. Then the eye shadow was for special occasion and I would use Mildew I don’t even know if they make that shade anymore it was like a mildew shimmery green all over my lid crease everything it was a good idea but bad execution. Maybe I should try to do like a better version of how I did my makeup back then that could be kinda fun. I don’t think I have any pictures from back then I’ll have to look in my old hard drive.

2// Describe your perfect mascara. Have you found one that fits your specifications?

I like mascaras that really lengthen and thicken my lashes I tend to prefer a more heavy formula since my lashes are pretty curled naturally and they can hold it. I really like Too Faced Better Than Sex, I like Stila Huge Extreme a lot. I L’oreal Unlimited mascara in the funky bottle that can stand up on its own. With all my subscriptions I never actually need to buy mascara.

3// What kind of coverage do you prefer from foundation?

Preferably none I really don’t prefer to wear it but if I am going to I use foundation I like a light to maybe medium coverage. I’ll only wear full coverage for days I’ll be taking lots of important pictures.

4// Favorite high end brand?

I don’t really know any more because I feel like most brand I have a favorite type of item from but I don’t like everything from any brand. I have loved everything I have tried from Jeffree Star, I love Urban Decay Eyeliners, I love Sugar Pill Eyeshadows, I love Abh liquid lipsticks and brow stuff. It’s just to hard to say.

5// What cosmetic brands have you always wanted to try but still haven’t?

More indie brands in general, especially Menagerie Cosmetics.

6// Favorite drugstore brand?

Colourpop, Covergirl (base products), Makeup Revolution.

7// Do you wear fake eyelashes?

Very rarely, and I usually use the magnetic ones if I do.

8// Is there any kind of makeup you can’t leave the house without?

No, I am totally fine going out without makeup but I won’t go out to see friends or go somewhere without eyeliner that would be my first repurchased item if all my makeup went missing after I had a very long meltdown about it.

9// What is your most cherished beauty product?

Either my Sugar Pill Pro palette (I really want to make another but they are so pricey), or my Melt Cosmetics Vida and Muerte palettes because they are like works of art when you put them together.

10// How often do you shop for makeup? Do you like to pick up an item here and there or get lots of goodies at once?

Too often is that an answer? I buy to make up at least once a week in addition to all my boxes. I usually only get one or two things I rarely do a large haul of things but it feels both amazing and overwhelming when I do.

11// Do you have a “beauty budget” or do you spend freely?

No I just have a life budget and if it doesn’t fit in my life budget I can’t get it. I do use coupons and gift cards and sales to score a lot of free and cheap makeup up. I rarely buy anything full price.

12// Do you utilize coupons, rewards cards and sales when you shop for cosmetics?

YES! I am a crazy couponer when it comes to makeup, I am always trying to match sales and coupons to get things for free. I use points at stores and I use Rakuten to get money back if I shop online. It is actually legit I was super suspicious but you really do get a check in the mail.

13// What type of product do you buy the most of?

Eyeshadow or eyeliner.

14// Is there a brand that you absolutely can’t stand?

Well Kat Von D was one but now its KVD Vegan Beauty so it remains to be seen what my feelings on that are. I have pretty much disliked everything I have tried from It Cosmetics except the brushes and the Super Hero Liner. I do not like Ulta brand makeup.

15// Do you avoid certain ingredients in cosmetics like parabens or sulfates?

No parabens and sulfates have not been scientifically proven to be bad for you and parabens are a very effective way of keeping products preserved and safe to use so I have no problems with them. I do avoid anything with rose or rose oil because I am allergic. I do try avoid excessive alcohol in skincare but I don’t kill myself to avoid it.

16// Do you have a favorite place to shop for makeup?

No I like to shop everywhere Ulta, CVS, Sephora, online everywhere.

17// Do you like trying new skincare products of do you keep a certain routine?

I love trying new skincare products. I always want to try new things see how they work.

18// Favorite bath and body brand?

Fortune Cookie Soap Company!!!!!! Their stuff is in my empties all the time you know that if you follow me regularly.

19// If you could only buy from one brand, which brand would you choose?

Urban Decay, They vibe with me I like their color stories, they make my favorite eyeliner, my favorite setting spray, they have a primer I know I really like. So they have tried and true products in all my most important categories.

20// What brand do you think has the best packaging?

Makeup Revolution/I Heart Revolution always has such cute packaging that just makes me want to buy it all.

21// Which celebrity always has great makeup?

I am not really a celebrity follower so I really couldn’t tell you.

22// Do you belong to any online makeup communities?

Other than this blog and Instagram no.

23// Favorite Beauty Gurus?

Oh this is kinda hard because most of the beauty gurus I watch I watch them because I like them even though I would never do my makeup like them. But I will link them all below.

Youtubers:

Jessica Braun – Lifestyle & beauty, her content always feels fresh to me

Emily Noel – she just reviews so much and she does a lot of top five videos

Matilda – all her videos are flat lay style with just her hands, very cool

Taylor Wynn – she films a lot of foundation stuff, I learn a lot about it which is useful for doing makeup on others

Alexandria Ryan – she unboxes so much stuff and then uses it in a first impression she’s very fun and quirky

Beautbean – I want to recreate every look she does she’s all about color and grunge which is totally my style

Robert Welsh – pro makeup artist so educational and just all around amazing I am obsessed!

Just Buy the Makeup – Hailey does not bullshit and I love her for it she seems so real plus her Australian accent makes me happy lol

24// Do you like multifunctional products like lip and cheek stains?

No I feel like they never really work well for any purpose.

25// Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?

No? I mean I make mistakes does that count?

26// Do you use makeup base/primer for the eyes?

Yes always, sometimes I use a white concealer but usually an eyeshadow primer.

27// How many hair products do you use on a typical day?

None. Sometimes I use dry shampoo or a hair oil at night but really no most days.

28// What do you apply first concealer or foundation?

Foundation.

29// Do you ever consider taking makeup classes?

I am currently in a makeup academy. I love it. Though Covid-19 has kinda thrown everything off here.

30// What do you love about makeup?

I just love playing with all the colors and getting to do a different look every time. Really getting to match my look to my personality. I feel like my look instantly tells people about me and because I created that I get to feel proud of it. And I like the no pressure aspect because the worst thing that happens is you wipe it off. Like its very low scale importance so it is relaxing. Plus it is just fun.

Woah that was a long one but it was really fun. I hope some other people do this too one what ever platform they are on. Stay safe stay inside stay occupied!

Walmart Winter 2019/2020 Beauty Box Subscription Review

Walmart Beauty Box

Cost: $5

Cycle: Every Quarter/Season

What is it: Every season Walmart sends out a box of samples and sometimes coupons in their “free” subscription box. The box is a flat shipping rate of $5 and the box is considered free.  There are two categories of boxes “Trendsetter” which you receive if you provide a birth date that has you aged at under 35 and “Classic” if you provide a birth date that has you aged above 35.

This box always makes me so happy. Probably because it is so cheap so well valued and so random. It is the number one box where i use up all the products on a consistent basis.

Degree MotionSense Ultra Clear Dry Spray

Full Size: 107 g

Full Size Cost: $4.99

Sample Size: 28 g

Total Value: $1.31

This was sent in the last box as well. Not a huge negative though I have been using it (am almost done with it) it works just as well as the stick form of this which I usually use. I could see myself buying this for summer because it doesn’t leave the white under my arms which is good for tank top season.

Colgate Optic White Renewal High Impact White

Full Size: 85 g

Full Size Cost: $6.99

Sample Size: 20 g

Total Value: $1.64

I don’t know why this is sideways I tried everything I am sorry. I have wanted to try this since I saw a commercial for it. I am so curious to see if this will whiten my teeth. There should be plenty here to see that effect as well.

Color Club Nail Lacquer in It’s Complicated

Full Size: 15 ml

Full Size Cost: $8.50

Sample Size: 15 ml

Total Value: $8.50

This is a very pretty color, but I don’t paint my nails and if i paint my toe nails I have a few polishes hanging around that I am trying to use up so I will give this to a friend. Great to get a full size nail polish that costs more than the shipping on this box though. And this is not even the best product in the box!

Curel Dry Skin Therapy Hydra Silk Moisture

Full Size: 354 ml

Full Size Cost: $10.99

Sample Size: 29 ml

Total Value: $0.90

It says non-greasy but uh its a little greasy. It is super hydrating and does feel really nice and silky. It is more and better then I would expect in texture from a curel product but with all the benefits of hydration and good for my skin like I expect from Curel. I just don’t like the scent of their products I don’t like the scent of the masking agents used in unscented products that is just a me thing.

Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in California

Full Size: 8 ml

Full Size Cost: $6.50

Sample Size: 8 ml

Total Value: $6.50

Nyx Soft Matte Metallic Lip Cream in California

Full Size: 6.74

Full Size Cost: $7

Sample Size: 6.74 ml

Total Value: $7

I am so hyped about this I have been wanting to give the soft matte lip creams another try and have never tried the metallic ones. This little set came in the cutest box they are both full size this is so awesome they are not the same shade eve though I think they are supposed to be but they are nudes that I am hoping won’t pull too pink on me. They dry down they were soft they seem like they are going to be everything I want.

Walmart out here killing the game every time for me at least.

Boxycharm January 2020 Subscription Box Review

Boxycharm

Cost: $25

Cycle: Every Month

What is it:

Boxycharm sends out 4 to 5 full size items every month which makes it really unique among the  boxes I subscribe to. It is a nice change to get all full size products especially for $25 which is usually less then the cost of one item in the box. Boxycharm also joined the customization train and you can choose between a few items to have one in your box for the month. I really like that because Boxycharm was getting to the point where I was only liking one thing in my box and even though the value was there the fun wasn’t anymore.

If you would like to subscribe you can use my referral link HERE. I don’t get anything other then points but would really appreciate it but do as you feel comfortable you are also welcome to use the link in the header that leads to the regular homepage.

You can also review your products and get “charms” which are their versions of points that you can use as money off in their shop.

How is everyone holding up? I hope you are all safe and healthy and have toilet paper lol. Shits really real right now but let’s have this be a nice little mindless escape from all of that and relax with some very odd products from Boxycharm. Boxycharm also didn’t send me a card this month and I saw a review that also had that problem this month and that is an extra big issue when I get to the second item I talk about.

Chella Slanted Tip Tweezers

Full Size: Yes

Full Size Cost: $20

I don’t think these are worth $20 and this is not the first time they have sent me tweezers it just seems like an odd thing. I don’t love these I feel like they are really had to squeeze because I am not used to the weird middle. I know it is supposed to be easier to hold but I don’t feel like there should be a hole it in because it is just awkward to hold.

QMS Medicosmetics Lip Line Corrector

Full Size: 15 ml

Full Size Cost: $200

This thing. I chose this thing because it sounded interesting I had no idea it was $200 dollars. That is one of those prices that I like have a really hard believing is a real price and that any one pays that it seems so inflated. There is nothing particularly special in the ingredient listing. Since they didn’t send the box and there is no ingredient list on the packaging I looked it up and found that this also has nuts in it I feel like that allergy warning should be on the bottle as well as on a card in the box that is super serious and could be really dangerous to some one.

Becca Glow Gloss in Camellia

Full Size: 5 g

Full Size Cost: $22

I hate lip gloss and I hate pink this is just not for me. I am tossing up between giving this away and just saving it for using on other people I haven’t really decided yet. Swatched Below.

KVD Vegan Beauty (Formerly Kat Von D Beauty) Metal Crush Liquid Highlighter in Helix

Full Size: 1.8 ml

Full Size Cost: $12

So if you keep up with beauty world drama Kat Von D finally got bought out of her dying brand and it has been renamed KVD Vegan Beauty, which this supposedly is, expect we all know this is a highlighter left over because her name is still on the side of the box and this is being clearance out on Sephora it was was $25 and is now $12. I know boxes are always going to send things that have been removed from certain stores and things like that they have to make their profit but this seems like throwing it right in our faces that we are getting bargain bin items.

It is obvious why this brand was dying 1.8 ml for $25 dollars that’s so insane that is so expensive. I thought I was going to hate this but it is actually really pretty on it really does look like crushed up sparkle almost like shard of glass on the skin it is so intense and really pretty. Swatched Below.

Hank and Henry Living in Color Palette

Full Size: 0.8g x 9 shades

Full Size Cost: $27

This is so late 80s early 90s that it physically hurts me. I hate and love everything about this palette. I think its really funny that is suggests doing your eye shadow with your fingers since like that’s what you woulda done back that its cute.I feel like in the palette it doesn’t look like much it looks slightly more exciting swatched. It isn’t my color story per say but it is a useful pretty cohesive palette.

Just a weird assortment of products like it felt weirs to me this month maybe its just that I;m in a weird mood with everything going on I don’t it was just super weird box for me with the ridiculously priced serum. At least I got makeup this month I feel like its been forever since I have gotten makeup.

Total: $281

Total Value to Me: $239
